Need some help with my 8g nano cube

Just got a 8g nano cube and i was wondering whats the best way to set it up. Can i use one of the cambers as a rufguim. or what should i do for filtration. just going to make it a Clown tank and maybe some coral, not sure if these lights will work for coral. they are150 watt JBJ Viper Metal Halide Light. so give me some advice if u can. what would u do!!! lol

A 150 watt MH should have no problem froming coral in a 8gallon cube ha ha. No worries there. As for filtration. Some sponges. A bag of chemipure. and the fuge. Sounds like a perfect combo.

where do i get a bag of chemipure, and what cambers do i but it in. do i put sand in it?

Do some google searches on "biocube mods" and see how other reefers modded theirs. There are so many options. Click my 29g in my sig for some other ideas too.

It's up to you and what you think will work best for you and your setup. I ran a 14g biocube stock before and it was great. I also ran an 8g with no media and only a fuge and that was great too. My current biocube is loaded with mods and it's running great as well.

Typically any section that does not have a pump in it will work well for live rock. A fuge section would go where the intake would be..followed by a bubble trap. I have found it helpful.. to add something to the bottom to keep whatever you put in (rock or macro) from settling at the bottom or moving from one chamber to the next. A usefull item would be something that has holes and is water safe such as a plastic container with holes in it or egg crate ziptied together to make a box. Make sense?

do i need to use a skimmer, and if so which one, and does anyone have one for sale. i need to put a light on it or since its not covered will the 150w JBJ work for the refguim????

you don't NEED to do anything...BioCubes are created as all in one systems.

With that said... you may WANT to run a skimmer depending on your plans with the system.

Water test your tank with some freshwater....turn the light on...does it cover the section you plan to use as a refugium? Yes, then it may work. But another nice option on the fuge is to have a reverse cycle...this helps maintain a constant PH. The fuge light would run on an opposite light cycle from the main light.

I would slow down on the buying part and spend some time researching the basics to keep a tank running. Then spend some time comparing mods done to this system by other reefers then decide what will work best for you before you buy anything else.

You may decide that you don't even want a skimmer or maybe you'll get crazy and hook up a sump and toss some cash at some LEDs lol.

Lots of options. Start with what you plan to keep first then allow that to determine how you want to run the system and what equipment you still need.
