Okay so I bought this http://www.wave-point.com/Lighting_folder/LEDHOClampLight.html From Louis at elegant in the 10k spectrum.. I had been eyeing it at other stores for awhile but never pulled the trigger.. Then I saw robs tank with it but in the 50/50 spectrum and he said he was pleased so I figured I would give it a try....
I really wanted the 6500 daylight spectrum but Louis had the 10k and 50/50 in stock so bought the 10k anyway to give it a try... Coming from a 5000k cfl that grew my stuff like weeds I was a bit worried that I wouldn't get as good of growth, in the 1 st week I was really worried.... It's been maybe a month and I noticed my fuge was almost all filled.... I can say I am very pleased..
I was pleased with the cfl but with limited space it was about a 1" off the water and I was nervous anytime I put my hands in there....
here is the last day on the cfl.... Again about a month ago...

and today..

I definitely recommend this light to anyone wanting to cut back on heat or space. I am planning on taking mine off the clamps and mounting to the top for easier access...

Good to hear man, I was wanting one for a pico tank I picked up but I was worried that it may not grow coral.
Looks to be pretty stout for sure. This the 12" version? How many watts?

I like it.... I'm sure the 65k will grow stuff even faster..... But the 10k works for me and rob likes the 50/50....
i say it's worth the money.... Louis wanted me to tell him how this light worked... I am sure there are others that wondered.

I was going to post that....
The strip would have worked better for my too.... All this light is a basically a strip with a mount.. Which is why I'm going to remove the clamp...

look into a cube design sump like louis and i designed for my tank, now he stocks them. mine is 24x20, saved so much room under my stand and i only havea five foot tank. i have 10g ato kalk reactor inside there, two external reactors and storage racks

I still need to pick me up one of these. I want the 50/50 so I can try and run xenia down there.

Robert, do you feel the Xenia would prefer the blue?

I have no idea. Blue will put out more PAR, but I'm not familiar with what spectrums xenia would need.

Oh. Yeah, I knew that....
I think you CAN grow coral under just blue, it would just look weird to us; I think.

Big fan as well, hope you don't mind me posting some pics of the 50/50 for those interested...
The 12" 16-watt 50/50 version on my 85g fuge:

I had to dremel out the lip on the sump for the clamps to fit...

I got the 12" 50/50 on robs recommendation and i love it. Illuminates my fuge great. That dragons breath o got from you, Tony, is growing like a champ under it. Not as good as my 65k florescents. But still darn quick.

Hmm. Would the clamps fit on a tank with trim? Say, a 40 breeder?

Fri, 12th Oct 2012, 03:25 PM
Yes they open pretty wide.... I'm sure it would work.

And rob, you have to be flagged for having that clean of a sump...
Mr Cob
Fri, 12th Oct 2012, 03:26 PM
not sure rrasco...but I'm sure you could mod something to make it work, as you can see above I had to dremel my lip down on that sump.
lol Tony...you should see it now...looks like poo-poo

If I have to mod it I may as well wait and get a strip light to mount above it. Or build my own since I could probably do it for half the cost. I need to build an LED fixture for my FOWLR anyways.

an option for you and not for me lol, If I could I would but I can't so I didn't lol.

It won't fit on the lip of a 40breeder. My sump on my 40 system is another 40. Won't fit over the lip. I attached it to one of my baffles instead.
rrasco

Not sure I have an available baffle. DIY it is I guess. A few 1W LEDs driven directly off a DC power supply should do the trick and for a bit cheaper.

AH MAN!... i feel like an idiot. I was opening my cabinet door to take a pic of how i had it mounted and knocked a container on it and it pushed the light into the water. Fried it. 16887 fail!:at_wits_end:

Ouch. It's probably fixable, if anything, the driver might have fried. The LEDs are still good though. Should be anyways. Let it dry out and give it a go. Maybe put the drive in a bag of rice.

Yeah. I just pulled it apart and all the capacitors are melted. Leds should be good still.

Capacitors are cheap and easy to replace too.
Don't ever throw away a 'broken' LCD monitor, it's probably $3 in caps to fix it.
