wow sorry to hear that. Dont put sand or LR in it. Possible ich habitat. They will attack the wounds. Get some seaweed in there and try to keep him healthy.

smart get him out before he gets sick.
question: How much lift are you pushing for your Dart? I have this external Blueline for closed loop. Supposed to push 1900gph at 45ft. But its easily 300 watts.

I would face that light away from the tank. Lower light levels result in lower stress levels for injured fish. Drape a towel across the front of the tank, so he feels "hidden" and secure. Increase food and supplement the food with a good vitamin soak before feeding. Unless his injuries are terrible, he will most likely heal. Plan on daily, or every other day water changes with such a small qt. Good luck, I hope he heals fine.
If I had a black tang and a purple tang fighting, I can guarantee you I would kick the purple tang to the curb in a heartbeat.

Hopefully he pulls through, I like using a pond foam filter for qt tanks. (Loraine taught me that me that one)

+1 on the pond foam filter.
Sounds like you have done all you can. Watch for signs of infection and be ready to treat as necessary. Fingers crossed that he pulls through.

tangs are social fish. Im not sure if its the right time to put some cleaner shrimp in there with him. Just a thought.

Hope he pulls through! Black tangs are beautiful. I would let the purple go if it were me in this position.
Good luck with him and keep us posted.

So sorry to hear this Lucky...saw your thread a couple days ago and have been hoping for the best. You did a great job caring for the black tang though and even made it through a tank upgrade and more. We got some cool vids to remember him. If it wasn't for you I would have never had the opportunity to have one in my care to admire such a cool fish, so thanks bro. :)

That's big loss ...tank is doing great and I was so happy last week when my family was over and now this ...it's like every fish when u had em for a whole and this happen....I dnt know what I am do with purple tang might end up keeping it but I rarely doubt it if I can add another tang in my tank......also thought about sometimes introducing a little larger tang in the tank but it might be a problem to some point sometimes in future ......so I am gne stick too smaller species like wrasse and Anthias and no more tangs
