I noticed some bright and I mean bright red algae forming under my MP40 on the sand bed and glass......
Its not hairy, and not slimy.... Its on my Mp 40 as well and I couldnt rub it off.....
seems to be contained to the corner for now but it has spread from the other day.....
I was trying to get a pic..... but under LEDS it isnt working, I will try again in a few....

I thought maybe cyno, but it looks nothing like it.... I did have the filters on my MP40s since adding a RBTA but they have been removed as of yesterday.... I thought maybe they were restricting flow a bit.....

if you have a nem I would keep the filters on bro, a vortech can be very unforgiving to a wandering nem. If your flow changed from removing the filters then you are even more likely to get a wandering nem.
Any thought to adding a phosphate reactor and or increasing your clean-up crew? I'd rather do one or both versus adding another powerhead to catch the possible dead spot. Removing the filter from the vortech doesn't even seem like an option to me since you have a nem.

I've had a red coraline algae crop up here and there in the past. Is it of the same texture? I've also had a brilliant pink... but they never last before I get inundated with the purple coraline.

It not a soft film and I couldn't scrape it off with my finger from the power head....
Rob, u are right.... I couldn't spot the nem this morning.. Hoping for the best when I get home. I have already had sushi twice in my tank because of wandering nems..
I will take a pic when I get home...... Wanted to take some of my new corals..

I'm hoping its just a red coralline that I am reading about.. It completely covered one of my chalice frag plugs.....
Hoping to get my hands on a macro lens after work..

As far as a gfo reactor.... I have been really thinking about adding a cheap one to try it out...
but I don't want to be covering anything up... And if it goes offline I have a barrage of issues or outbreaks.
