Okay, I picked up a healthy yellow spaghetti leather about 2 weeks ago and placed it in the tank after drip acclimation. I placed the leather about 2/3rds up my 30" deep tank in somewhat moderate flow as per Internet care directions. It has since unattached from the rock it was on and fell to the bottom of the tank and began loosing mass. The piece "looked" healthy the whole while with perkiness of tentacles and what looked like polyp extension. When I had time to recover it this weekend it had reduced in mass by half and had split in two. The flesh had a mucus coat like it should. I "sewed" the pieces to new rubble and placed one piece halfway up and the other back in the original position. They have both removed themselves from the rubble and have fallen down to the sand bed again.

All levels are normal except that my ph is currently hovering around 8.1 and nitrate got up to 20ppm this Sat. and has been lowered to 15ppm so far thanks to a huge 25% water change. All other softies, LPS, and montipora SPS are doing well and growing like crazy. I dose trace supplements twice a week. Lights are 2x250w 20k MH & 2 T5HO actinics.

What am I doing wrong with this coral?
