Is what I'm sure the clean up guys are saying, assuming they aren't dead.

The Apex just sent me a message that the temp is now 85.1. I was running a little on the hot side (~83-84) but never this hot. How bad is it the temp is that high? I've turned off the skimmer which has stabilized the temp at 85.3.

I only have snails and a couple hermits in there now.

The lights are not plugged into the Apex, which in hindsight is a little dumb, an additional 4 port outlet is on the way for them. They are most definitely the hottest thing in there. I'll be reconfiguring the outlets tonight and putting them on the controller.

Just my opinion but I would avoid anything over 82. this is my best case for Vortechs and LEDs.. I run no heater or chiller, and have an enclosed stand and i'm a steady 78.6 -79.6 year round

there is no magic number but at the temps you where runing and currents temps those are pretty stressful. if you can get someone to go unplug lights you should. then start thinking of ways to add a fan, my little clip on walmart fan drops my temps 2 degrees( more water evap but worth it)

My 29g was running at between 85 and 87 during the two weeks post cycle with snails, hermits and mollies with no losses due to a dirty window AC. I didn't lose anything. Now that its being stocked,I've fixed the AC and added evap fans and it stays around 76.

I do have a heater plugged in but it's reporting "OFF" The only things not plugged into the Apex are the lights and some fans on the canopy.

For some reason my tank is hot. The room is not hot, I have a clip on fan in the mail now, to help lower the temps.

I have 4 Koralia 1400 powerheads running. I didn't want to turn them off, thinking that less water movemnt would be worse then a few tenths of a degree. Should I turn them off?

i would cut two koralias off and turn on skimmer unless your not worried about oxygen levels then leave it off

So I turned 2 powerheads off. Temp is at 85.5. Powerheads break the surface pretty good, so I think I'm getting good gas exchange with them.

The Apex was reporting temps about 1 degree higher than an analog and digital thermometer. The analog and digital were reporting the same temps.

Was the probe calibrated??...

Do you have access to a cheapo temp guage....?

Might want to pick one up to make sure the apex is reading correctly first.

So right now I have 3 thermometers. The Apex, a cheapo mecury filled and a digital one that was included with the heater. The heater and the mecury were in sync, but the apex was about 1 degree hotter than both of those.

Apex states the temp probe is calibrated at the manufacturer and doesn't need further calibration

I have a pretty good size server in the same room. I shut it down to see what would happen. Probably take a little while for the room temp to have an effect.

Do you have a canopy? What type of lighting?

How hot is the room?

I do have a canopy. Lighting is 2x 175w MH with 2x T5s. There are 4 120MM fans blowing across the surface of the water (they honestly aren't moving much air.) The house is at 72-73, the room is a little hotter due to the computers, I don't know the exact temp but it can't be more then 76 or so. Tank is right by the door, so there's airflow there. MH ballasts are mounted outside the stand toward the bottom.

Can you leave off the MH for a day just to see what the temp does?

I am no expert but narrowing it down one at a time will help.... With the MH's probably being the biggest contributer to heat, it would be useful to know how hot they are making your tank....

Then you will know of you need to bump up your fans or get a chiller..

Dude, leave the lights off. If you don't have any coral or photosynthetic animals, the light isn't necessary. At least leave the halides off.

I'll second this one, I have seen tanks run at 80 degrees just because of all the motors running in the tank

i sure can. i know the lights are hot. in the morning the temp is around 81-82, thats with the lights off for 10 hours.

im'm going to leave the return pump for a couple hours tonight and see if it gets into the 70's

One at a time.....

It takes awhile for temps to dip, well depending on the size of the tank....

What size is it?

It's a 110 tall, 30g sump
