What are some ideas on how to plumb in a seprate fuge and sump?

have the fuge elevated slightly above the sump so that the fuge can drain into the sump. then, "t" off of one of your drains to feed the fuge. something like this

[D'oh! cant get to photobucket at work - will post a pic when i get home]

The way ace described it is the way mine is linked up...

The sump is to the left and the fuge is elevated with a cheap egg crate.

One of my drains is on the right and T's off then shoots to the front then to left to the sump... I want to replumb it where it doesn't shoot to the front as the pipe is in the way and annoying... But it works...
there is also a valve after the T leading to the fuge to control the flow..

did this recently with the help of everyone here and with Ace's ability to build anything, he built me a cool acrylic stand too...

WOW you are the master!!!! *grovels*

I found some 15 talls at glass cages for reasonable price:)

My thoughts for the sump have changed according to price now. Unfortunally i don't thing i can afford a custom sump now :( Never know this is a very.....very slow build.

I think i will use 2 15 gal talls flowing into a 40b with baffles in the 40b. Live rock in one 15 and mangroves and chato in the other.

sounds like it would work fine. that may even be better as you could do two different types of fuges :)

You might want to call around before you settle on the glass tanks. We have a couple of great sponsors that can build or access acrylic designs for you and you might be surprised of the cost and ease of use in relation to using several glass tanks.

You can name whoever you want. No sweat there. I was just giving you advice on some acrylic. I have done both - using glass and using acrylic for sumps and I prefer acrylic for ease of drilling and lay out.

Here is a pic of my fuge lay out from my 120 build.

Very nice setup!! I agree that acrylic would be nicer and probably better, Limited funds are hurtin me tho. I still got a mountian of work to do before i am ready, Tho I kinda want to plan what all is going in there as I am progressing in the stand build. I really want this to look very clean when opened up. Most people don't have a clue what all is involved under the plywood.

Just curious, how are you guys with the acrylic sumps/refugiums handling the coraline that is forever growing on the sides.... How do you remove it without scratching the heck out of the acrylic? Are you constantly polishing it? It wasn't so bad at first but after a number of years it becomes scratches on top of scratches..... Never had this problem with glass.

Take your time and buy the best you can afford even if it takes longer. It sucks to wait and want. Been there before.

I let it grow. It doesnt bother me on the sides. My turf scrubber has become covered in it as well. I think that the algae holds onto it better which is good.

a nice table saw with a good finish cut carbide tip blade works well for acrylic.

i use weldon#3 or #4. just be sure to use the fence on the saw and set it once for all the pieces you will cut of that particular dimension. that will ensure that the pieces are the exact same size where they need to be so the seems fit just right.
