You can hook it up either on the sink tap or from a water tap. I have it plumbed after my water softner.

Don't need a new membrane as this one is only about a year old. It's ready to make water ad it sits now.

Not really sure. I changed my filters every 6 month's and my DI when it was exhausted. Still getting 0 TDS.
