My pulsing Xenia died while I was gone this weekend. Gonna do a water change tomorrow. In the mean time, my leather and candy cane and mushrooms look fine... any ideas on what might have killed the xenia and left the rest intact?

Xenia is one of the hardiest corals. But for unknown reasons they just up and die. Mine took a turn a while back and just tanked. Shriveled up and was gone in a couple days. No idea. I read up on them and they can live in thw dirtiest tanks. But sometimes too clean of tanks can kill them. So if your tank is too clean then it could have been a reason.

I disaree that they randomly died. Non stable tank kill them. Most common problem with Xenia is temperature, Quick spike will melt them and also quick change in pH like when you add alkalinity into your tank. Those two are the most common problem. I got the same Xenia strain in my tank since 1997, my oldest living animal in the tank, if you call same strain as same animal.

Mine up and disappeared basically overnight. I thought a crab or something ate it. It's possible there were swings in that tank though, it was only a 29 and had no ATO.

Must be the temp. I added new MH lights and the water temp was up, especially higher in the water column, where the xenia was.
