Well due to my goby that likes to rearrange my sand into piles everywhere, which I dont mind cause my sand is always perfectly white, I need to add a few more inches to the middle....

Now How do i do this? I read little over time with a funnel and hose.... But do i use live sand or what do you recommend? My tank is very happy at the moment and last thing I want to do is spoil it......

just be sure you rinse the sand really well before adding it as jt said to keep from turning your tank milky

if it is dry sand, you can just rinse with tap water until it is almost clean, then switch to ro/di if you want.

You can rinse with RO, saltwater would probably work too.

The easiest way to get it into your tank is to put it in a one gallon ziploc, then cut the bottom corner off. Lower the bag into your tank and let it fill with water, then just tip it over and let the sand flow out exactly where you want it. Keeps it from just going all over everywhere (don't ask me how I learned this, LOL).

get a butter bucket full of sand and sit it down on side where you want to put it. slowly empty:bigsmile:little cloudy but clears
Ever since my 210 went down Ive been adding sand to the 125.still doing it. lol
Best to add when water level goes down from evaporation. save the RO water

Bad idea. You need to remove the water voume that sand displaced. You should add RO like normal or else you salinity will go up

This is fine, or else add them all at once but turn the pumps off first. I usually soak the sand in tank water for about 1 week before I added it into the tank. If you added live sand, just add the whole thing without rinse.

I've only done a 16oz cup.... I was a little tied up this weekend but I rinsed just the cup of sand, the bag is still live. It's looks like it threw nothing off, would be easier if I didn't have to rinse but the water was sure cloudy until my 3rd or 4th rinse..

You sure it would be alright putting in in that way?

If you have "live sand" rinse it in anything other than salt water would result in "dead sand". Live sand in a bag does not have much "live" in it so that is no big loss. If you add it as is, it will cloud up that water for a day or less and clear up with no harm done. I usually pay no attention to this.
For dry sand, I often rise it and soak them in tank water for about 1 week, they become "live sand" as sold in those plastic live sand bag. They would have a little bacterial in them, no higher form of life in those bags

Cool.... Ya I read up some more and realized I should have not bought live sand, which is why I rinsed it. I did not want to disturb anything.....
