Was reading some post and seems from everyones experience garlic is a great way to keep fish healthy. Was wondering what is the general way that this is used. Do i just buy regular garlic from store? powder? how do you soak? and then is only food put in tank or also the garlic water? thanks for the info.

I would imagine just the food. That would defeat the purpose of helping them find the food. It would just dilute the garlic and it would be everywhere in the tank. I've never done it myself, but from what I understand it just helps them find the food. I don't see a real benefit from it if they're eating fine. I'm sure a more experienced reefer will chime in.

Garlic is awesome. I buy a regular bulb from the grocery store, peel 3 cloves, crush them into a fine paste with a mortar and pestil, and I add a little bit of the paste to their food (frozen mysis/brine/rotating third option). I let it all soak/thaw in tank-tankwater, then pour in the tank. They love it. I keep the paste with some tank-water in the fridge in a snaptop bottle - about the size of a prescription bottle.
If anyone gets ick, garlic (I always run UV). If someone isn't eating, garlic. I even had it help a hippo tang get rid of popeye. I won't say it was just the garlic, since I did numerous other things, but it definitely helped.
Hope this helps..

Might wanna try Kent Marine Garlic Xtreme: It works great for Ich as well. Info below is from website.
Garlic Xtreme helps boost your fishes' immune systems and encourage proper feeding with natural, nutritional garlic. You'll easily give all your marine and freshwater fish a potent source of garlic which helps combat infection and disease, while naturally attracting fish to food. Simply soak food with Garlic Xtreme, and even the finickiest eaters will be enticed to eat. You may also add Garlic Xtreme directly to aquarium water if fish are not eating. Garlic Xtreme contains no artificial ingredients or steroids, and is safe for all species of marine and freshwater fishes, plants, live corals, and other invertebrates. Does not require refrigeration. 1 oz treats 1,200 gallons.

I like the cloves, simple and effective while giving them something to eat as well.
I've only used it when worried about a fish not eating, but I forgot how healthy garlic actually is for us.
Also heard vitamin c is a good additive, but I've not searched for any information on that.

I have found some fish that will not eat garlic soaked foods, so I add it straight to the water when I have had a fish that was stubborn. Does it work for Ich I believe so, others do not. I know I eat a lot of garlic sausage and I am never sick. If you smell Zoe it smells just like human vitamins? I also use Kent Garlic, a bottle last me a about year.

+1 on the Vitamin C in the powder form. Soak with Garlic and regular mysis, brine etc.. Bruce & Bella love it.. And of course they eat more which results in fat healthy fish...

Im going to have to use garlic to soak with food then, has anyone ever tried the powdered garlic, and @Isingh do you cut the garlic into little bits and feed the garlic directly to fish?
