Hello, I know this is probly me being stupid. But I was wondering if these fan / fern style pieces that are growing off my life rock are good or bad? Like I said its really me overlooking my tank but I just wanted to make sure.

Looks kinda like bryopsis which is very bad.

Hmm. Being honest, I'd nuke ALL of the rock in the tank, right now. This is very, very bad stuff. Just look at me. I have a Discus tank because of this stuff.

Thank you guys! Looks like tomorrow Ive got to pick up some Kent Tech M and dose the tank. Right now its just live rock in there and it is cycling so raising the mag levels right now wont be a big deal at all.

That bites, I would not even trust leaving it in the aquarium. I've see guys have to completely tare down everything because they thought treating it in the aquarium would do the trick and it came back even stronger. You can remove the rock and still have traces in your sand bed as well.

My thoughts, take all the rock out and bake it in the sun for a couple of days. Lots of folks have started giving their rock acid baths also. That way you know the rock is going in with nothing on it a live at all.

I got a whole bunch of frags and rocks with corals on them. One of the cooler paly rocks I got in that batch had bryopsis i tried to qt in a container for a couple days trying to clear it up but as soon as i put it back in my main tank it grew back so i had to scrape the whole frag palys in all. It broke my heart but would rather do that then loose some of my other pieces. It is a fast and aggressive algae. Be careful.

Straight hydrogen peroxide poured on rock worked for me. Let it sit for 15 minutes and bam dead algae.

I picked up some frags with bryopsis, dipped in a 50/50 peroxide solution, and it was GONE. I even got the satisfaction of watching it sizzle and bubble to death. They've been in the DT for months, no sign of it coming back.
