I know quite a few people that have used them. The new ones don't stick or 'click' like the old ones did. For the cash it would be a worthwhile investment.

I have been using one on the 85g for over a year now. It's hardly a "wavemaker", more like exactly what the acronym stands for: Switching Current Water Director

It also has to be cleaned every couple of months otherwise the flow is compromised. At this point I just use it for splitting the return line up and I don't clean it any longer. Great sollution for feeding dual return lines lol

lol

"Wait, .....where's the electrical plug? ...... There isn't one" around 2:00 mark...lol

Man, they beefed up the claims on everything.

"The Squid meets ALL of our concerns" lol, I'm sure a large facility is using those especially when they say each one can only handle 1400GPH 2:58

We're all laughing at it, but like Eric said a lot people use them. They've been around a long time. Haven't heard anything bad about them in a while. The first ones would jam and required frequent cleaning.

I have a small corner tank with two returns and it works great. I use a mag 7 as a return pump and it switches direction about every 15 seconds. I agree with Rob that it is NOT a wave maker but the change in direction of current and a flow pump in the middle it keeps my corals moving in all directions. I've had one for years and just replaced it due to a broken drive inside. I figure the damage was my own doing. Had been sitting a while with tank down and when I started everything back up I only did a quick rinse and put it in service. Thanks to E.R. new one is in place and working great.
If you are looking for something to take care of multiple possible dead spots or to add flow in multiple areas in your tank a SCWD will work great. If your looking for flow like a vortech mp10 -mp60 buy the vortech...

So if I'm setting up a new tank in the future, it would be good to connect by dual returns to one pump? Is there a limit to the return size of flow pump?

Sergio in my tank I run two return pumps(sicce 2) one for each overflow. it's easier to plumb and also if one pump goes out I still have one working. but you can run a manifold or a wye and use one pump
