That's a big rock, if you were looking at a huge colony I'd lean toward a favia or high end montipora

Dragon soul or reverse Christmas tree favia.

favia down Allan, I like the idea of acans or favia because of the cool tentacles they have.

Been a while since my last update!

I have added a few new corals. Sherita brought me some Green Hairy Shrooms, a Fat moon cora and candy cane Coral. I also placed a order for more rics. Blues and greens this time, look great.

Added a small clean up crew- 4 Astrea snails, 4 Margarita snails and 4 Nassarius snails.

I was having issues with cloudy water last week. I was thinking it was my reef crystals salt, because it happened right after the water change and lasted for several days. On Sunday I decided on removing my Caulerpa which will go sexual and release spores causing cloudy water. Thinking that may be the problem after removing it I am happy to say with the help of filter floss the water is now clear again.

Thanks to Mark aka RockMp for the Chaeto that took its place. Nice and dark green.

Earlier this month I also built a little frag rack to go in my sump for future frags.

Also on Feb 24 Sunday afternoon John aka Firewater was generous with his time and him and I mortared a few pieces of BRS dry rock together at his place. What we came up with looks awesome. I had decided weeks ago that I was not happy with my scape and wanted something a bit more natural and more rock for more corals :)

I wanted the pillar structure to actually protrude out of the water. My 40g breeder is 17" tall and the pillar we built ~19" so the top just brakes the surface.

Well yesterday I took on the job of rearranging the rock and coral. Took me a little more than a 1hr, but I have to say the finished product looks awesome!

I took a lot of pics last night that I need to upload. Will be posted soon..

Thanks guys, I am liking it a lot now. Going to get a nice cap to grow off the new pilar on the right. Maybe a chalice on the lower part of it.

Looks much cooler in person, pics not doing it justice. Has a nice cave on the left side where my Ric Garden is located. A really cool crevice/valley between the pillar and the middle section. Did you spot the blastos in the valley? Want things growing where you would expect them for a more natural look.

My Melanarus wrasse is loving his new playground.

2 new fish today. Thanks to South Sea Aquatics on Bandera and Reindeer. A nice store with a great selection of fish.

Got a ORA Splendid dottyback beautiful fish! & a Flame Cardinal which is just cool. Both acclimating nicely. The Flame Cardinal has taken up home in the cave and under the overflow.

i saw that splendid dottyback really nice, i picked up one of those flame cardinals from them about 2 months ago, its doing good, its a shy fish seems to be nocturnal but it will come out when you feed, the only thing he will eat in my tank is either mysis or brine shrimp.

I picked up the large flame cardinal they had in the tank as you enter the building. Its around 3" . Tonight i fed the tank flake and it ate. Awesome! only in the tank a few hours and is eating. The splendid dottyback was gald to eat some as well.

Wow, Time for a update. I have not been posting as much lately.

All the coral are doing excellent. All the LPS have grown new heads or spread. The Blastos especially, I have them tucked in the aquarium where I can not quite see how well its doing. I picked up its rock last night and was amazed at the growth. Several new heads. I will post some new pics and a vid sometime soon.

Ray, what mode and percent are you running the mp10 at?

RayAllen
Tue, 9th Apr 2013, 11:23 PM
I have always run it at 70% on reef crest mode. Although this last weekend I got the ich to try something else and its currently set on ecosmart TSM tidal swell mode. Im trying it out for a week to see if it make any difference at all. Reef Crest is my favorite mode and the most random through out the day so im sure I will have it back there any day now.

Tank has not changed much in the last 2 weeks.

All is doing well- the one LPS that seems to be on the fence about my tank is the Leptastrea. I have moved it around 4 times now trying to find that right balance of light and water movement. All other are doing awesome and I see new growth all the time. I've had my purple digi for 3 weeks and its growing new tips, NICE!

Also picked up a Bubble Gum Monster Chalice from Los tejanos a week a go with three eyes.

What else.

Decided on staying with my T5 fixture for now. Can not argue with my growth and color results. Also just ordered my new ATI bulbs today. The fixture will have more of a 14-15k color once the bulbs arrive. Went with ATI 4 Blue plus, 1 Purple plus and 1 Blue Special. Should make for a nice Combo.

PEACE!

R.I.P Clown Goby

The clown goby died today or last night. The little guy has been removed from my over flow at least 7-8 times since I bought him. This last time was his last. Some how he went over the side and jumped into my dry emergency drain pipe. I run the bean animal system with 2 drains running and 1 turned up just incase the others gets clogged. Have no idea how he got in there. Determined little guy, jumped his last jump...

Tank turned 9 months old this week. Not much different from my last pics, but I am selling a few corals for some more LPS and possibly a anemone.

I think after my tanks have been going a while I have a tendency to get in a rythm with water changes etc and i stop admiring or just not looking as closely.

Well tonight I found a new critter after the moon lights came on. What I can only describe a a solid black nudibranch. No clue when it entered the tank, but what a cool find. I honestly thought it was a dark black spot of algea or dark hole until it moved its antenna. So cool! Cant get a decent pic, to dark and all i have is the iphone.

Well, I made a couple of changes. Times for some pics

Actually 3 weekends ago I got tired of the detritus build up in my deep sump. So I decided on doing a ~20g water change by removing the sump and cleaning it :).
I figured out that the macro I had really wasnt doing a whole lot for the system so it is gone. Sump is clean! Have a new 200micron sock to keep organics at bay. Reator and skimmer moved to the large area of the sump and it looks great.

As far as the display, I removed a few of the larger simple corals that just weren't doing it for me. That allowed me to move my rock work back to a more open free swimming configuration which looks great. Also picked up a GBTA from Mr Cob and its settled into a nice place for itself on top of a bare rock which I hope it stays there.

Some pics.

11 months old now. My little reef has gone through some changes and growth. It has really coming together nicely. As you can see it has a few new corals. Blue Kenya Tree, Spaghetti Leather and Green Pipe Organ among a few others. Sold a few LPS to make room for the larger corals. Getting great growth. Both caps have grown quite a bit. My bubblegum Chalice had 3 eyes now 10. Blastos still multiplying etc...

All in all its a true mixed reef now Softies, LPS and SPS. Enjoy the Video. Watch in HD. I will be posting pics as well.

good luck with that hawkfish, i had one in my 65 and he got very aggressive. i ended up catching him with hook and line as he got wise to fish trap.

Hes such a cool fish. When I 1st put him in the tank the Melanarus wrasse tried to bully it around. That last maybe 2-3 days. Now the hawk rules the tank, but no aggression as far as nipping etc.

Thanks Ace, the pipe organ is awesome. Has actually already grown new heads and has really started to stretch out. The spaghetti leather decided to close up the last few days and this morning it shed its skin. Looks nice and full this evening.

Would like to buy a couple more chalices. The bubble gum is doing really well and another would be nice.
