So, I have an MP40 on my stingray tank that just went bad :(
It's less than 30 days old, so still under warranty. Just noticed night before last that it sounded different. Just a high-pitched spinning rather than the normal pumping sound. Sure enough....NO water movement.
To Ecotech's credit, my wife called yesterday, and they shipped me a new one with a postpaid label to return the old one - shipped same day as the call. Great customer service.
Now, I understand that with ANY electronic device there are going to be some that just fail....that's the way it is.
What I'm wondering...is this common with these? I'd read/heard great things about them. I have 3 radions and the MP40 from ecotech and have been thrilled with the quality - until this happened. Is this just a fluke? Or is this commonplace for these pumps?
TIA for input! :)

I've had failures in mp40s and my 60. My 60 had a rubber bushing go bad, and my 40s electronics went wonky. Since they were fixed, I have had 0 issues.

I've had one 40 for about a year now and no issues what so ever. Bought a used 40 not to long ago and replaced the wetside and controller and no issues with it.. Also I have had a 10 for awhile with no issues so far...

I could just be lucky....

With what those PH cost luck shouldn't come into play at all, and failures should be few and far between.

That's great how they sent you out a new one asap with postage for the return though.

Not sure if their policy is the same, but I had to shell out the cash on a CC before they would overnight a new one. I thought that kind of sucked, but at least they try. Brett is a good guy though, he's their service manager, and probably knows me by voice.

I've had 4 mp's and no problems except for wet sides. and that was stuff that was my fault or an anemone or fish going into one and messing stuff up. I had a used one that who knows how old the wet side was that seized up and broke the frame but again if i would have rebuilt it with fresh parts it wouldn't have happened. other than that I have had no major problems and I keep rebuild kits and ceramic bearings on hand just incase. if you heard a high pitch sound the dry side may have gotten wet and bearings internally failed I had this happen and as soon as I heard the sound i sprayed wd-40 and it went away and has not come back.

I had a problem with my mp40w a couple years back. I received horrible service though. I think that (the service) was a fluke though as most say they have pretty good customer service. Haven't bought anything ecotech since then though. Although I may give them one more chance here fairly soon with some 40s.

I have had 4 MP40s for a couple of years without ANY problems. During Kevin's problem I panicked a little and thought I had a problem too but it turned out to be user error on my part ;) Still they handled my call very efficiently and went out of their way to make me happy.

If I had another big tank to set up I'd go back to Vortechs without a doubt. Loved them. No Probs at all.

great to hear about this. I did have to give them a CC number to hold in case I don't return the old one within 30 days, then they charge me for a new one. Otherwise, it shipped tuesday and should arrive tomorrow.

New one arrived Friday, complete new setup BNIB. Sent the old one back with the FEDEX delivery guy and had the new one installed in about 2 mins. Working like a champ. Thanks Vortech for the quick service. :)
