Anyone use this pump externally before?

Mags are historically known to leak. Although they are supposed to be external pumps, I wouldn't use one externally.

I was thinking of using one to plumb two 55 gallon barrels together. To mix saltwater.

i have used a 9.5 and a 18 externally before and they both leaked...salt in the water helped to plug them up but it also rusted the screws

That's about the same I have heard. Was hoping maybe some one had better luck with them.
