Well, after many headaches and much learning, I finally got the webcam on my 252 gallon Stingray tank up.
It's a 252 gallon key-hole shaped tank, lit with radion LEDs.
Current stocking is a female California round stingray, Blonde naso tang, desjardini sailfin tang, magnificent foxface rabbitfish, coral beauty angel, eibli angel, harlequin tusk, 5 green chromis, and a couple of grass shrimp that haven't been eaten yet.
There is also a maxi-mini anemone, a cluster of a couple of different color polyps, and a decent sized chunk of frogspawn.
Please feel free to let me know what you think about the tank/setup/lighting/cam. Enjoy!
the login is "wheatstingray" and the password is "stingray" (I know....soooo creative...lol)

You can try the link again. I think it limits the number of users at one time. Also, it does take a couple of seconds to load.

Allan, you definitely should with that big new tank. The one I used adopted users to pan around the tank which would be handy for yours too!

It worked on my iMac. Wouldnt work on my iPad. I guess it needs a java plugin.

Larry,

Can you feed us some data as to where you picked up your equipment, how you set it up, general cost involved?

Cool. Where is the ray at? I don't see it.

I'm planning on setting up cams for my fish room and the 105 DT when it's running so I know everything is doing okay while I'm away. I've been skeptical about people watching me though :innocent2:

i had one submerged in my old 240 in an acrylic housing that i made. it was pretty cool because it had a red led indicator light that would show when it was on and the fish were attracted to the light. any time the camera was on, it was a constant flurry of tangs swimming up to the camera to check it out :)

That's along the lines of what I wanted to do on my DT. How big was your camera? I've been thinking about a small bullet cam so it's low-profile.

it was a chepo one, so it wasnt sleek. the acrylic housing i built was about a 4" cube. it hung right next to the overflow on the end and didnt stand out too much.

Wow, That is an awesome idea. I kind of want to put a camera in my tank now ha ha. Just for Poops and Giggles. That would be sick.

After a couple of false-starts and camera problems, (including a camera return), I picked up a Panasonic BL-C230A from Best Buy. $250ish for the cam, includes DDNS service free. The automatic setup wasn't terrible with it, although I did have to wait until after the holiday for a quick tech support call to get the last details squared away. The tech support was helpful and easy. I've never thought about putting it IN the tank....not sure of my acryilic building skills enough for that...LOL

rrasco...the ray was probably sleeping. She's either REALLY easy to see swimming around, or she buries herself in the fine sand and almost completely disappears. When we first got her, I had a couple of times that I came home from work and started looking on the floor outside the tank. I thought she must have jumped out or something because I didn't see her anywhere! Then, I'd spot her spiracles and breathe a sigh of relief. But, buried...she's nearly invisible..lol

Wow! She's really active making laps around that tank. Cool idea on the webcam.... but hoping you like to work on and feed the tank fully dressed!

Very cool......

How do you like the radians so far? The radions are great. Tons of light and complete programmability built in. Plus, my 7yr old loves the thunderstorms..lol

She's hillarious when she gets started...she'll swim across the top on her back to get her belly rubbed or pop up in the middle of the tank and flip her "wings" like a dolphin to get attention. And fortunately for you all....I am usually clothed in there...LOL
