What about using bone for making aragonite. I was always told bone is made of calcium but I don't know for sure.
I've read so much about how to make live rock porous and the problems and dangers.
The picture is of a pelvis bone. The inside is like sponge.
Just a thought. There is a lot of it around here.

Uh, pelvis bone of... What? :/
Certainly looks porous, but I always thought it meant a finer shade of pores than what that hip bone has. No?

That's from a cow, I think. The dogs bring up all kinds of stuff. Other bones have much finer pores, that one was just easy photograph. I'm just curious as to how reef safe it would be.

We can run an experiment. A small tank with water change water and some Texas trash... Well, that may not be a good test. I've got them growing in my backyard.

based on the following, i would be worried about it leaching phosphate into the water
The inorganic composition of bone (bone mineral (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone_mineral)) is formed from carbonated hydroxyapatite (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroxyapatite) [7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone#cite_note-Legros.2C_R._1987-6)[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bone#cite_note-7) (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2)
