I'm tossing around the idea of adding a larger external fuge to my modded biocube, right now I just have 3/4 of a 5.5g that is used as my fuge. I'm thinking about setting up a 20g brute trash can next to my tank to increase water volume and add TONS of extra space for cheato. I have a couple of options I would like some advise on, First is do I feed the fuge/trash can with water straight from my tank overflow or add an additional pump in the sump. I'm thinking feeding it with the tanks overflow is the best option. Second is sand or no sand, do I keep it simple and run it bare bottom with cheato only go for a DSB. I do have some dry sand I could use, but it would probably only add up to about 3-4" deep, so thats not really a DSB. With the collection trip coming up this kind of setup could also be a great place to keep a large handfull of pepermint shrimp in hopeing they will breed adding eggs into the water column as extra coral food. For some extra info, my tank is a biocube 29 with maybe 15-20 pounds of rock and about a 1" sand bed, 2 clowns, 2 orange lined cardinals and a molly miller, I don't feed very heavy but plan to slowly increase feeding as I add more corals. Any ideas or input would be nice.
