I would think that is ok. Is the power still out? I have an inverter for my car I just hook up to a powerhead when the power goes out.

A battery operated aerator can save you tank in a situation like this. Just go to walmart, and back in the fishing section you will find the bait bucket bubblers. They will last quite a while on two batteries, and will keep your tank oxygenated until the power comes back on. Watch your temperature......if too hot, float baggies of ice, if too cold, float baggies of hot water.

I am wired for a generator, but I realize this is not an option for everyone.

I have even heard of people saving their tanks by using a kitchen whisk to agitate the water and get oxygen into it.

With the storms that came through here last night, I am not surprised that folks are out of power. I drove right into that mess on my way home from Dallas, it got a bit interesting.

Not a bad idea but I'm gonna go with the battery pumps so I don't have to worry

If you can find them, the best battery backup pumps are the ones you can plug in. They sense when the power goes out and only turn on when the power is out, but they come on automatically.
