So, I'm picking up a 252 gallon keyhole shaped tank this weekend for my stingray. I was wondering if anyone in the San Antonio area has any of the industrial strength suction cups for moving these things that they would be willing to loan me for a day, or if anyone knows where to find then locally. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Okay, this one is gonna be interesting.

I believe MAAST has some for loan.

Yes, it is definitely going to be interesting. Can't wait to start getting it plumbed cycling. I'm going to take pics as I go so I can post later.
Who would I message to see about borrowing some from MAAST?
TIA!

I don't think MAAST has any.
Contact JT (gseclipse) he has some that he may loan out.

I think TXAV8TER, the tax evader, runs the lending closet.

If its not MAAST property, it may be a communal thing. My memory hasn't been the same since the '90s. Sorry.

Jack and Allen, thanks for the replies. I'll see if I can get ahold of JT. You don't happen to have a phone # do you?

What's the tank supposed to weigh? I have some suction cups that I bought when I couldn't find any locally. Doubt you would call them "industrial strength" but they worked for me

Maybe call some of the lfs. I know the first time I got my tank we used some but when we moved to my new house they were not available. Remember to check them before lifting as they sometimes will slowly seep air out. Honestly I don't know if I would trust them again but that's just my opinion.

I have no idea on the weight. It's a 252 gallon keyhole shape glass tank. I'm guessing...a lot...lol. What size tank did you use them on scutterborn?

I don't have any, but another option are those moving straps. Sorry not sure what they are called. But they go around your shoulders and your moving partners shoulders and in between is what ever you are moving, including a tank. Seen these used a few times and they help move stuff with ease.

I'm guessing that he's going to have to turn the tank on its side to get it through the door, but then again not really sure what a keyhole tank looks like.

Not sure if straps are a good idea if it's on it's side.

Not sure how heavy my tank is, but at one point I was holding one end on its side coming through the door, and rested it on my thighs while waiting for one of the guys to run around the house to help bear the weight. Left bruises on my legs. And that was only 190 gallon glass.

Brother, there is also the MAAST cart that can be lent out. It's borne the weight of many of our tanks over the years. This will limit the amount of time that your tank sits upon the strength of your help.

It is definitely NOT acylic...I wish...lol. It essentially looks like this (hope the pic came through). 72" long, 32" wide at the narrow part, 44" wide at the wider part. 20" tall (I think). I will have to go on its side to get it in for sure. What is this cart you speak of?? I would love to borrow it!
Thanks all!

Quit bragging Allan!... Now we know where they got the expression "tall tales!"

For borrowing the cart, you're gonna want to shoot a PM to alton. He is the one in possession of the carts. There is an official thread to keep track of who is borrowing it from the MAAST library, however... I just verified in the rules section of the library that borrowing equipment is a Charter Member privilege. If you decide you would like to charter up, go into Settings (to the right of your name in the upper right corner of the screen) and then scroll down on the left hand side of the page to My Account: Paid Subscriptions. Click that link, select charter membership, and pay by paypal account. If you let me know by PM that you have sent in your membership fees, I can have you upgraded within minutes if I'm online (and I usually am). Other means of notification / verification can take a little longer.

Kristy, I'm planning to upgrade to charter membership anyway (as soon as I have 5 mins to sit at my home computer with my wallet and do it...lol). But I'm planning to try to pick this thing up tomorrow, so I don't know if it will work out to try to borrow it anyway. Where is it/are you located?

Alton has the cart with him at his job, which is in the 1604 and Judson area. You can make arrangements to pick it up through him, but usually he can be pretty flexible within work hours.
