For larger ones like these, all you need is adequate lighting, stable water parameters, and suitable tankmates (no nippers). A lot of the 2-3 inch and smaller ones need to be supplemented with filter feeder foods.

I purchased the Crocea Clam at Alamo aquatics a while back. He was under priced so I jumped on it and he's grown about an inch since I got him. The Derasa Clam was purchased at Elegant Reef. Louis has some very good deals on clams and a nice selection. The thing I like about Elegant Reef is that he prices his clams by species and not by size. His prices are very competetive. I've had great luck with the livestock I've purchased there. I'm using a 6 bulb ATI T5 sunpower light fixture.

good to know. And you are running the T5s with a depth of at least 2ft with that 90. sounds good.

Are you hand feeding or just the T5s?

Phytoplankton is probably the best. I've used h20 life frozen coral food. Usually 2 times a week works. You can target feed or just shut off your pumps and feed the whole tank at once.

John, how long have you had the crocea? How big was it when you got it?

h20. I heard DTs is good. So 2 times a week not daily for the little clams? or more

I've had him for less then a year now. He seem's to be growing faster then I ever expected. My tank is 90 gallons and 25" high and the fixture is about 8" from the top of the tank. If your gonna use T5's then ATI is the best. Very bright with individual reflectors. On rare occasions I throw in some coral frenzy but I never over feed. I just make sure to do weekly 10 gallon water changes and never use anything other then RO/DI water

And now I have pyramid snails. So far I pulled off 5 of them and did my first scrub today. I haven't found any on the crocea at all. I read that pyramid snail's may go after different clams depending on the type of snail. All the ones I found were on the Derasa. The crocea is attached to a piece of coral and the Derasa is sitting in the sand if that makes any differance. I also added a fairy wrasse in the tank tonight.
