I have only done this once in the past on my 29 gallon biocube. I'm thinking about doing it now on my 90 gallon tank. I'm starting to have some algae problems so I need to address them. Can anyone please advise if they have done this on a large tank? Also if I do this do I need to turn off the led's I'm using for the moon lights? Also I was thinking of doing a water change tomorrow but if I do the 3 days of darkness should I wait to do the water change until after the 3 days are over? Please help me out with this. Thanks everyone.

I've done it twice to quell cyano.
I also tend to give in and it turns into two and a half days of darkness.
I don't believe the size of the tank matters, and I'm not sure whether you'd want to do it to the left or right of a water change. I'd probably do it to the right side of the dark time.
Leave the LEDs off. IMO

I'd do the water change post to get rid of dying algae and run your skimmer wet.

I agree. Water change after to get rid of the nutrients the dying algae will let off.

So do I leave the skimmer running during this 3 days? I need to clean the skimmer as well and this would be a good time to do it if I can. If not I'll do it later.

No, you need it to eliminate the extra waste from the dying algae. You don't want that in your tank.

Thanks. Hey can you take a look at my other post regarding my water parameters?
