Filtration seems to be the best investment ... Specially the skimmer which breaks down the nutrients ......
My newly setup tank has a skimmer which is rated as just as much as the volume of water I hve in my tank....
Usually I like to go with at least twice as size owhich ease me out while I feed thou doesn't mean it requires less husbandry on ur reef tank...
Would like to get thoughts on this and please explain ur filtration system vs volume of ur reef tank and ur water quality

Mine is rated for a 200 and I have a 150. Not big enough = more water changes or high nitrates. Admittedly my tank is overstocked. I also have mangroves, a huge clam, and various macro algaes to help control nitrates, but still.

I'm looking into a skimmer for my 185. I'm tagging along to get some good ideas. Was considering a nac9 or Bubble Magus BM-200PN.

Nac9 is rated for I think 300 to 400 gln system but I found much reviews on them yet but price wise u can't beat them...
I hve read some articles in past regarding oversized skimmer it's does need a bioload to perform gud....also
Not only it skims but also increase the oxygen levels in ur reef tank

I don't "plan" on running a high bio load. That's what I say now.... You know how things can go. I plan to run coral heavy and skimmers tend to pull proteins that corals feed on, right? If my understanding is correct I could go over sized but run it on a lunar cycle maybe. That way I've got a reserve of skimmer should I need to run it 24 hrs.

nutrients are constantly being released so I don't think your coral will starve with a larger skimmer. I ran a sea side aquatics cs-1 rated for 150g on my 70g. I now run the cs-2 rated for 230 on my 150.
I like running a bigger skimmer than needed. are there any other skimmers your thinking of Lucky??
