Just curious, I always see everyone's GSP all big and green and waving around in the water. They also look like one large colony. Mine doesn't, the tips are barely a faint green, polyps don't seem to be as wavy in the water or as large as others. Just curious if I got something weird or there is a reason my GSP don't pop like I see them. Are they supposed to be pink before they get green?

This is an old picture, but essentially what they still look like. Have not grown much or changed color.

I frag GSPs a lot and when I look at yours couple things stand out to me. The skin of it doesn't seem to be mounted onto anything just laying there. The reason it's important to mount it on something is to give it some waterflow. I usually put mine is low/med waterflow so that the current will blow any nutrient or algea off it's skin. If you don't clear the nutrients on it, it will get dormant and then soon will wilt and die. As for the water column I keep mine mid to upper to keep it's nice green and shinny middle color but do it slow. Don't just throw him in the tank and put him up at the top. I would gradually start from bottom then move him up but always in direct light. Again this is just my experience and observation with the pic. =)

In that picture, which was taken last July, that frag was mounted to that disk. It has been moved and mounted to some LR mid way up the tank. I can see it's began encrusting and growing new polyps, but like I said, it has barely grown and nothing is green about them.

I had some for years in another tank that always looked that way... I have a small piece of my bright ones you can have if you want to try some different ones

I think this is just a brown variety of GSP that was very common years ago. I found it to be an exceptionally fast growing coral.

Here is a pic of an old tank I had with it. (Colony on lower-right)

Thanks for the offer, maybe one day. Schertz is a little far for some GSP.

If you want to give pink star polyps (psp), I have a frag of that lying about in my tank that you are welcome to.

I live kind of near to grouch.
