Best think I ever did! With an Vortech blowing nothing sits for too long. Periodically, when I do a water changes, I just take a small powerhead and go to town blowing off rocks and under them not worrying about the sand storm it could cause. Wish I did it a long time ago.

Too early for me to speak but I like it so far. I can crank up my mp10 and not have to worry about sand going everywhere..

I also love it in one of the frag tanks...but honestly I like the natural look of sand in a display tank.

My hex is partially bare, just a little sand under a rockpile that helps hold up my torch. I think I would prefer all sand though.

You go barebottom in your display or frag tank?

I could see it work well in a frag tank or other 'no fish' system. For systems with fish I always feel a little sad they are not getting substrate. I mean even common clowns love to wiggle their little tummies in the sand. It's just part of so many critters natural behavior that it seems selfish to cut them off of that.
But for coral only systems I think it could be a great idea as long as you get your filtration from something else.

I agree with karin on the fish part, but I loved my old sps tank bare bottom. Before I added the vortechs you could see how much fish poo/etc would collect on the bottom, so I could only picture how much of that most people have stuck in their sand beds. Yes, I know you can have snails, fish, etc to help keep it clean. My opinion is if you don't want fish that need it, as in some gobies, jawfish, wrasses, etc and you don't mind the look of not having sand then don't use it. Most people just love the looks of sand though.
