Saw this this morn and thought it needed to be shared especially since we have so many newbies here. i didnt know this toxin could be vaporized under hot water.

When I got into reefing I was terrified of zoa/paly toxins. Everyone is so nonchalant about it though, telling me it's nothing to worry about, it's harmless, etc. Obviously not.

in the three years ive been in the hobby i have twice gotten sick from messing with palys one from an open cut on my finger and another for wipping some stuff off my lips. it was just a minor case but i felt like crud.

I typically do all my zoa/paly work underwater. When I glue them to plugs I always handle tenderly, and try to keep one finger over the tops of the little dudes.

Everyone's seen the zoas squirt the liquid out, right?

yep, if it tastes like you are eating a penny after you have been messing around in your tank, keep a close watch on your health for a few hours. the two times it has happened to me, i felt really bad for about 4 hours.. if you are allergic, you could go into shock and worst case, die.

Holy cow, I have had that taste in my mouth before after cleaning in my tank... thought it was just from some salt getting on my lips... thankfully I have never had any ill effects.

my wife would be proud of me...lastnight I finally fragged with long gloves. :) First time since reefing. While making over 70 frags in a 3 hour frag session I saw a ton of nasty lol
