So I have always loved starfish and currently only have one in my 90 gallon tank. I would like to get quite a bit more but was wondering if there's such a thing as having to many. I honestly would like about 10 in my tank. The wife loves the one we have and wants more as well. What do you guys think?

What are some reef safe starfish that you guys have or have had?

Also do I have to count these as part of my bio load?

What kind of starfish? Many of the larger starfish like Fromias will slowly die. Serpents and Brittles will eat just about anything.

Not that type. I'll find ones that are reef safe and that will do well in the tank.

Do you mean Linkia instead of Fromia? I try and stick with serpents, you don't hear about as many eating fish.

Red Bali star fish (fromia milleporella) are supposed to be good with reef compatibility.

I have a pink fromia star in my 20 gallon and it's doing great. I have had it about 2 months and has never harmed anything in the tank.

I have a star fish now that has a lot of little spikes on its back. It's not a cholocate chip and is reef safe. I just cant remember the name. I got it from the aqua dome in austin. I've had it almost a year now with no issues.

Yes, Linkias are the ones that slowly melt away. I like the Serpents (those are the ones with all the spikes) and Brittles. I had a serpent star for about 6 years whose arms grew to almost 12" each. The only ones that I have heard about having problems with are the green brittle stars going after small fish, but I never saw mine do that. Serpents and Brittles will eat anything I feed the tank and anything that dies. Otherwise they hide during the day.
