This really isn't an emergency, but I noticed this is where everyone is posting there issues. Moderators please move accordingly if I am wrong, thank you and sorry in advance.

Now with that disclaimer outta the way, I am having a red slime problem. I have been fighting it for about a month, and just recently was able to get it out of my DT. I work 12 hr shifts, so on the days I work, I really can't give the tank the daily attention it needs. Today I get off work and noticed there is a new neon green slim in the refug, along with the red slim I have been fighting.

Any help, advice will be appreciated.

If you look in the very corner you can see the slim I am talking about (sorry its the best picture I could get with my phone) and if you look all over you can see my red slime :)

Call me crazy, but I do not mind weird things showing up in my fuge. What kind of macros are you growing in there? How did you remove the red slime (probably cyano) from your main tank? Do you run any UV sterilizers or any other type of filtration? Also, do you have a good sand bed in your fuge and main tank? Lastly, do you have any live critters in your fuge and what are they? I am a bit of a naturalist when it comes to my tank and fuges and I have screwed them up every way imaginable so I probably can be of some help here.

It's not a huge problem in my refug, just ugly...I have about a 6-7 " sand bed with a piece of live rock and a Cheato algae ball. Its about a 3-4" sand bed in the DT. There was two turbo snails, one has died for sure and the other was doing well but disappeared on me. I was able to get rid of it in the DT by dosing it with microbactor 7 and reef bio fuel. I don't run any kind of UV sterilizer, just a bag of cemipure.

Thank you for your help.

Hi Andrew,

Welcome to MAAST. I wanted to address your concern here. First, thanks for understanding how the moderation team works and our role in keeping the site in order, second, you're perfectly good where you posted.

Some would argue that cyano isn't an emergency, and there is certainly a wealth of information in the forum that deals with just about everything that could go wrong in your tank. However the bottom line is that an emergency to one may not be an emergency to another, and that means that any concern that you bring up will be dealt with by the membership as an important issue, for to you it is, correct?

Besides, much more pleasant talking to a real live person that my live just down the road from you, than researching the archives for that reference to cyano that may have been placed by an erstwhile member.... and more importantly, what people are doing "now" to deal with cyano as things in this hobby change daily.

You will probably get different opinions from many of us... so let me be another example of that. While I don't encourage cyano in my sump, I certainly don't worry about it. Remember that your tank will attempt to strike some kind of balance. I've always let what would grow in my sump/fuge... grow. Cyano does have a benefit of chewing up nitrates, but like you I can't tolerate it in my display tank. I've rampant cyano, slimy green, dark green, sponges, and macro growing in there.

I hope this helps, and in case I missed you earlier, welcome to maast.

Hey thanks allen...I think I will just let it go in the refug...as long as it stays in the refug!

Thanks again for everyone's help.
