Is there such a thing as drilled 20 gallon tanks?

If my seahorse babies don't die soon I'll have to move them out of the fry tub to make room for the new fry. I am running out of room. I was thinking adding a small tank like a 20g to share the sump with the fry system could simplify things.

But how easy is it to get a 20g drilled (either buy one and have it drilled somewhere or buy a drilled one...

i can drill a tank for you - i drilled all (27) of the 20 gallon tanks in my classroom. i have glass hole saws for 2" bulkhead and 1.5" bulkhead. had one for a 1" bulkhead, but i loaned it out and never got it back.

so are these special tanks or any Petco 20 will do?

as long as we are not drilling the bottom, i think any 20 gallon will work. if you want to do a little brand research to make sure that the sides are not tempered that might be wise. tempered glass will shatter when you try to drill it.

Okay I picked up a brand spanking new 20 H today. I can bring your some gorgo frags for your drill work.
when you say 1.5" bulkhead do you mean the hole? Or the actual bulkhead? (as in 1.5" pipe or 1" pipe)
Who did you loan the 1" out to? I shall retrieve it for you ... ;)

i dont remember who borrowed the holesaw for the 1" bulkhead. yes, the smallest one in my possesion is for a 1.5" bulkhead - the hole it cuts is 2 3/8". it would be very easy to use a pvc adapter to drop it to 1" plumbing.

Ace, I have a bit for a 1" bulkhead (1-3/4 bit) if you want to use it instead. I can bring it when I bring your 2-3/8 bits back. I already drilled my 40 breeder for my 1" bulkheads, so I don't think I'll need it anytime soon.

If there is any doubt about glass being tempered, do the polarization test. I did on all my tanks before I drilled. Most are only bottom tempered though.

Also, I'm on the NW side if anyone needs help drilling their tank (a little closer than Ace for some people maybe). I don't want to do any big tanks though, that blows. Small tanks are a breeze.

Okay. I picked this tank up at TT and they said only bottom tempered (Aquaeon)
I'll try and get your bit back from whomever (because it sucks loaning stuff out and not getting it back)
So when might you be available for drilling?
My babies are due Saturday 14th but he's usually a day late (not to rush you or anything)
Or I can pay you in Reidi babies! lol

Before I drilled my Aqueon 210, I called to make sure only the bottom was tempered because it had a 'Do not drill glass enclosure' sticker on the bottom. They said only the bottom was tempered, but substitutions do occur from time to time on the fly during manufacturing, so they recommended I have a glass shop verify prior to drilling. I used this method on a known piece of tempered glass (55) to make sure it worked, then checked both my 210 and 40. Worked like a charm.
