Looking for recommendations for reliable heating units for tanks 10 to 30 gallons. We have tried most commonly available brands and found that the heat control units almost always fail after a time, defaulting to always on. Suggestions appreciated.

Buying a controller is great insurance, also like with all non grounded items we put in our tanks make sure to use Gfci receptacle and grounding probe

two undersized units is better than one larger one. If one sticks on, it won't do as much damage. Eheim Pros have worked well for me, they also have a light so you can see when the unit is on.

and take back all your heaters to where you bought them, most have a decent warranty.

I use Ebo Jaegers and have had good luck with them. I do however have all heating (and fan cooling) attached to my Reefkeepers so if the heater fails the Reefkeeper will still shut off power to it.

If you happen to have a controller, I can recommend the Finnex Deluxe Titanium Heating Tube, they come without a heat control unit, so you use your controller to control them. If you don't have a controller, I've also had good luck with Ebo Jaegers.
