That's cool. If you read the comments you'll see some links, one to a $15 unit on amazon and a $10 unit at Home Depot. That is, if you don't want to build it yourself. I sure enjoy a good DIY.

There are instances when DIY doesn't make sense (unless you have an old smoke detector kicking around or are bound and determined to DIY). I bought a couple of battery operated flood detectors (they're LOUD) from one of the big box home improvement stores for about $10. Has the ability to relocate the pads too (e.g. you want to sense water on the floor but want the alarm sitting up higher)

Also, if you have ADT, they have flood sensors that will hook up to your alarm system and send you a notification if it ever goes off. I'll be adding them soon.
