I'd think long and hard about that before I did it. Consider moving to the first floor, at least you'd have a foundation under you.

Why don't you ask your apartment manager. I'm pretty sure that can answer your question. Not sure if this is a serious question but I think having a 100+ gallon tank on a second floor apartment is a little disrespectful to your down stairs neighbor. When I moved to a 3rd floor apartment I traded in my 75 for a 20.

My thing is what happens when you have to eventually move out? That would be a B to dismantle.

This is exactly why I'm glad I don't live in an apartment any more. Would you be happy if you came home and your upstairs neighbor's apartment dumped 135 gallons of water onto your stuff?

Sorry, man. Wasn't trying to start nothing. Just stating my opinion. I'm surprised your super doesn't have a problem with the 135. My place made me put a $700 deposit down for a 20 gallon tank.
Definitely hold off on the 200 gallon or bigger until you move downstairs. A 200 gallon system is going to weigh almost 1700 lbs and a 300 is well over a ton.

I wouldn't do it with or without Renters Insurance. Just not worth it, too much of a risk. That's a lot of weight in one spot for a 2nd story floor. If something happens, there's a chance you could be dealing with a fire on top of water damage...
Plus, I can't imagine that the apartment managers would allow such a large tank.

the insurance remark was for his current setup. i agree with you, no way i would put one that big in an apartment, much less the 2nd floor

And the next month new management takes over and all the rules change. Including the deposits they want.

Thanks King for this post, I needed something to take my mind off work for a couple of minutes. Depending on the age of the apartments it might be built like a tank. In the old days before structural engineering they would use 2 x 12's centered on 12" centers. If you get a chance see if you can find an open ceiling somewhere?

That's why I hated living in apartments.
As somebody said they had to put a deposit down for their tank. When I got caught with my cat and had to put a deposit down for her the paper had 'aquariums' listed in the not-allowed animals category, or at least one requiring a deposit. Although, I had 4 tanks or so on the 2nd floor when that happened and I never got any grief about them.
