Until now I have been buying 10lb bags of coralife which are good for 50 gallons, with 2 tanks those bags go quick. So next water change I will be buying the 5 gallon bucket instead. Whats the best salt to use in this size?

It's a matter of personal preference. I normally use the Red Sea and Red Sea Pro salt, but lately due to budget cuts it's been Oceanic.

Tagging along.

The last two buckets was Kent. Looking for the best, but it's all just salt to me.

I have used tropic marin, seachem, brightwell aquatics, and aquavitro . The one I like the most is tropic marine. It dissolves perfectly and really fast.

This is what I'm looking for, quick dissolving, the coralife seems to take a little while to dissolve. Where do you buy it and how much?

I started with IO then to reef crystals. After a bad experience with red sea salt I am back with reef crystals...

Just finished up my bucket of IO. It took over a year but I did it, lol. Thinking about trying RC.

We actually mix 50/50 with IO and reef crystals. It has worked well for us. Too much algae growth with RC, but want more nutrients than IO. Can't take credit for idea as it was Lorraine's (BSJF) suggestion. Splits up the cost some too.

Hmm never thought of doing that, kind of the best of both worlds. Does IO have the reputation of having low nutrients?

I've used all the snazzy stuff but with a 215 and a 60 and a 30 running I go through it way too fast to splurge on Tropic Marin etc. So for the last year or so I am back to Reef Crystals and I like them just fine! I actually buy the 200 gallon box (4 bags at 50 g each). Weird timing since I actually just hauled a new box from the front gate to the house. lol

Was using red sea but upgraded to the red sea pro. Disolves fast and is looking like I use less.

The seachem I used a few months ago would take for ever to mix. The tropic marine is 69.99 on drsfostersmith for the 200G bucket and ships free.

its really a personal preference and based on ur budget....i hve used form regular oceanic to reef crystal to red sea pro back to reef crystal to aquavitros salinity....every salt measures different level of cal kh k alk and mag....i like to keep low alk and high mag and aquavitro seems to do the job...i been using this salt since last year and reef seems to love it!!!
my worst experience is with red sea pro...I hve heard gud things about tropic marine but never used it

Thats what i'm using right now and I like that they test each batch and they put a sticker on the bucket with the parameters they got.

I have to start looking for those 5 bags in a box of RC? Pick on Karin night Merry Christmas. I have used RC for a couple years, tried redsea pro but just bought a box of RC

what happend?

IDK man, I got a brown film over everything, pumps, mixing bucket and everything else I put in while I was mixing the salt. Although I wont blame the salt with in that time I lost a bubble coral, clam and a sick pipe organ coral. Like I said I wont blame the salt but it happened with in the time I used that salt till I tapered off of it.... I got rid of the mixing bucket and didnt clean my pumps(moron) the stuff leached over to my new mixing bucket and any other pump or heater I threw in there.... I just recently cleaned everything, including my new mixing bucket with vinegar and water....... Hoping everything goes back to normal as the pumps look new now...
