I remember some kind of cleaner fish that was supposed to be really good for picking off parasites of other fish but every once in awhile an individual goes postal and starts nipping on the actual fish.

Was it cleaner gobies?

I don't really have any parasites that I know off. But I like those neon cleaner gobies. I won't like them if they bite my other fish though! lol
I just don't know if I am thinking of the right fish?

And I LOVE my swarm of masked gobies (all less than 1"). They really add a lot to the 215g tank. I like small fish :)

Hey Karin, do you have a picture posted of that swarm of gobies? I've been thinking that I'd like to get some small fish to add that will fill the void left by not having hermits.

here you go Allan (sorry dirty glass):

Not sure how they would replace hermits though. They don't really perform any tricks. ;) I just like that they make things look more biotope-ish. Think of them as red/white striped saltwater tetras as far as their appearance in a tank goes...

No, not for any task. But the kids (and some grown ups) like seeing the hermits moving about. Kind of like focusing on a pinecone in a forest kind of effect.

I had found a brilliant blue stripy fish... Only they were $15 each. I just want to add a little fish that would be a thing that can only be seen if you watch te tank for a minute.

These are only $7.50 each but I get the feeling they do like to be in little groups (which is what makes them cool to me in a bigger tank -that little swarm, almost like insects in the garden buzzing around)

Wow, they're $15 as well. I had hoped to pick up five to ten to get the look that I'm after.
