My wife and daughter suprised me yesterday by bringing home a copperband butterfly for an early christmas gift. Now my yellow kole eye tang is just being relentless. I turned off all my lights early to give her some rest, but this morning it started right up again. I just did a little rock arranging ao we will see how that helps. Any other suggestions?

see if you can catch the yellow eye cole and take him out. If you can give the copperband butterfly a few days to get comfortable, if not maybee just a few hours then try to put the kole back in and see what happens, good luck.

If youve got a Large Enough Sump (with a chamber big enough to house him) then leave him there for a few days untill Copperband has Settled in

What's already been said. Remove the Kole for a few days and let the Copperband settle in. A few days of timeout usually solves these kinds of issues.

With all the liverock in my tank, trying to catch that Kole-eye will just be a nightmare. My wife was already trying that and she at least scared him enough to where he it is just hiding now. The copperband was able to eat a little bit, so will keep watching. I do have a large sump, was thinking I could at least catch the copperband to keep it alive, if this problem persists.

Sometimes providing a safe area in the tank that the aggressive fish won't go near helps. For example we have used a larger regular aquarium fish net to chase away the aggressive fish for a bit , then left the net in the tank leaning against the glass. The aggressive fish wouldn't go near it, but the other new fish had a safe area to retreat to. Sometimes trapping and removing an aggressive fish is easier said then done.

Also one time we divided the whole tank in 1/2 with eggcrate, so the two fighting fish could see but not get to each other. You can only do that if your aquascaping allows it. HTH

Make to feed small amounts several times a day so the copperband eats enough. They can be delicate and hard, without the stress of being bullied. Good luck with him.

Man, if your CB is eating I'd remove the kole for awhile. Those CB are hard to keep IME and the fact that he's eating amidst the malevolent attentions of the kole is, IMO, significant.

What I do when introducing new fish is floating them in a large clear bag and evaluate the interaction with the rest of the fish. Not fool proof, but it has spared me the difficulties that you're facing, at least once.

You can also use Ace's method for catching. It really does work. Just grab a brew (or another drink), and spend some time at the tank just trying to touch the tang. Be aware that they are surgeon fish, and can slice you up well. Usually, after about 20 minutes, they just give up and you can net them out - or pick them out, in many cases. Don't use a net - it gives them too much of a break. Just try and touch them.

Alright, we have made it 24hours straight of no bullying, and the copperband is eating brine like there is no tomorrow. The new foolproof way to stop bully tangs is to let your crazy wife chase the tang around the aquarium with a net for about 20 minutes scolding it not to kill their christmas gift. My poor tang was so scared it just hid in the back for a few hours and now has not caused any trouble. If you ever need some help, I can send her right over for some fish discipline.
