I've had this 2.5 square inch colony of these zoanthids for a little over 6 months now and was wondering what they were exactly. I checked out zoaid.com and came up with solar zoanthids? Help please.

I googled orange skirt zoanthids and found it to be the best common name.

sometimes a zoanthid is just a zoanthid (and that's okay) ;)

It's very pretty. I doubt everything they harvest from the ocean already had somebody make up a retail name for it

I'm going to call them sunny d(delight) zoanthids(yes like the orange drink!). Yeck! They are mine so I can call them whatever I want!

Yeah, Dylan I wouldn't name your zoas Sunny Delights especially if you ever plan to trade some or sell some should they grow out for you. Sunny Delights are premium zoas that fetch a pretty penny and that could be very misleading for a novice...even if you provide a wysiwyg pic. But yes, you are right a name is just a name, for the most part it's a way to reference the varying morph of zoas and palys out there.

But there are a lot that are very obvious and have adopted names by the reefing community that should not be repeated IMO... Tubbs Blues, Red Hornets, Purple Hornets, Sunny Delights, Spidermans, Magicians, Eagle Eyes, Purple Deaths, Nuclear Greens, Bam Bams...just to name a few. Basically if you google it with google images and you get a large return of the same morph...chances are that's an adopted and accepted name by hobbyists.
