Psyko's 175 Bowfront Reef

Hello everyone! I'm fairly new to the saltwater world and Maast. I've been viewing the forums and have had the pleasure of meeting a few of our members in person. Figured I'd better introduce myself. :) Everyone I've met so far has been very nice and helpful. I hope one day I can contribute but for now I'll reside to being the annoying noob with lots of questions. :blushing: I currently have a 70 corner bowfront that I set up for my 9 year old ( I know..what an excuse right..lol..but hey its in her room and got me started with saltwater :bigsmile:) I'm currently working on my 175 bowfront. It will be a reef set up eventually. I built the stand, and sump for it. Its set up with a bean animal "type" drain system with a 55 gallon tank for a sump/refuge. I'm currently working on polishing out the front of the tank with cerium oxide to remove the oxidation/etching/scratches I inherited from the previous owner. Its a SLOW process but its working. I've figured out that Maastards are visual creatures so I'm posting the pics I managed to take along the way so far. The last shot is before I filled it and realized those "spots" aren't your normal water stain spots so the tank is actually empty right now.

Has it been that long? Wow! Hope everyone had a great Christmas! I finally "finished" polishing the tank...what a project. Its not perfect but it looks much much better and I'm satisfied. Its filling up right now. Will post pics once its filled up. Now to stack some rocks! :)

Thanks for the kind words folks. How long should I let it cycle? I had a ammonia of .5 this weekend and now it's 0. Is that the whole cycle or do you think it will cycle again? Oh and BBQ, here's the led sites I was talking about. Thanks again for the pump and canopy!

Almost forgot about this thread. I moved my livestock from the old 70 gallon into this tank. I got to meet quite a few maastards in the process of stocking my tank and everyone was great! Thanks..I drilled the aquapod, installed the bulkheads, set it up and decided it wasn't a great frag tank do I sold it to Paul at r2g. Then I did the same thing with a 20 gallon long and gave it to my buddy..lol...

Thanks! Eager to get it going. This will settle that urge for something different I've been having for awhile. Undecided on lighting long term. For now, I'm going to use the 6 bulb t5 on it. May add an led strip it.

I've been wanting to redo my fuge for some time and finally went for it. I had a 7" dsb in there and the crap it accumulated over the last year is simply disgusting.
