Is there a big difference having a tank that's reef ready as far as better water quality, flow, or anything else? I know it doesn't actually improve the water quality, it just seems like with a RR tank there is a lot more flexibility with adding things to help with filtration and chemical lvls. Also, a RR is considerably quieter correct? Thinking hard about changing to a RR tank and probably go up a size or 2 in gallons, but wanted to know if it would actually be worth it....or would it be more just upgrading size if I was to do it, which wouldn't make a lot of sense to do quite yet is if that was the only benefit was to be bigger.

TIA

RR means that the tank that is drilled and gves u an opportunity to put a sump under the tank....
tank that not RR can also hve sump with the over flow box...nothing has to do with the flow or the water quality....

Well, reef ready is a way of indicating whether a tank is drilled or not. You can have a non-reef ready tank and put a HOB overflow on it without drilling. Essentially, you want to have a sump. The sump offers many benefits, especially in saltwater. Some of them are...

-Increases total system volume, thus keeping the tank more stable
-Hides equipment in sump rather than in the display tank
-Gives the ability to run add macro/LR to sump for additional filtration
-Much more flexible for custom filtration and equipment

As far as RR being quieter, that's not always the case. Don't assume all overflows are silent, because a majority are not. Lots of methods have been developed in efforts to silent overflows, notably durso standpipes, stockman standpipes, herbie method, maggie mufflers, and the bean method (modified herbie). Having said that, I have confidence in the bean method and have chosen it and a coast to coast overflow for my next setup, although I have never used it, there have been lots of satisfied 'customers'.

Mines drilled in the top back with the overflow box in the tank. I also have a sump....maybe I should just upgrade the size of my sump then if theres not to much difference. It's quite tight with the live rock, drain pipe, protein skimmer and return pump. It's only a 24 inch sump I believe. Problem is, how to get a bigger sump in without having to take the tank off.....

Anyway, I know it was kinda a dumb question, was just curious if there was much of a difference.
