Hello,
while making changes in my sump, I decided to clean my skimmer. I soaked it in water with vinegar, and I also put the pump in there and let it ran for 24 hrs.
Right now and I am cleaning the skimmer and dumping the other water out and basically cleaning the skimmer and let it dry over night, and then........my pump IS NOT WORKING! :( , Very small amounts of water coming out.
Can you guys please check the link with the video I made and tell me if it's out? or is it the magnet or the needle wheel? or what is it?
It's a skimmer I bought used and I don't know how old is it. :(

its a needle wheel pump ... .. well it should be if its the original pump for that skimmer sounds like a propeller issue open the pump and see if the shaft is broke ( be careful when doing this very easy to break... i personally dont do it i let the owner of the pump do it since i have broke a few on accident :( )

Did you take the pump apart to clean it? Did everything go back together correctly or did you end up with left over parts? LOL
I would take the pump off the skimmer and remove the impeller to clean it. After that try it again. Sometimes in the older pumps and maxi jets I have had they tend to "stick" after being left off for a while.

Can't tell what brand of skimmer it is, but the pump apprears to be some style and size of a Maxi Jet powerhead. Most skimmer on the market are needle wheel skimmers. The only other style I have seen is from Precision Marine with there Bullet series that use a Becket valve. When you are refering to magnets, that is refering to the type of pump. Most aquatic pumps are a magnetic drive. If memory serves me correctly the bottom half is removalable to access the propeller inside. Sometimes if that cover is not on correctly it will affect the propeller and the out flow of the pump. If after adjusting that look at the propeller and see if it's missing any pieces. Ifs its not then it may be the pump.

The shaft is not broken, the white stick right? If yes, then it's not broken.
LOL, Everything went back together correctly. I did clean the impeller, everything is super clean! Almost new looking.
I did noticed that lately the bubbles are not the same... The pump would do those sounds like for 10-15 seconds and then it will go away, but not this time. It's just not kicking in... :(
I just checked and the pump is $75 bummer...

@ cowboy572: The skimmer is a Coralife 125 Gallon Super Skimmer. And yes it's magnetic drive and I was able to pull the propeller out and back in and place the shaft correctly in the middle. I will take it apart and try again...

@ Gseclipse02 - I didn't run it without water, but I can't speak for the previous owner!
@Big_Pun - I will try to plu/unplug trick... :(...
@ Gseclipse02 - I had one before and it was a very nice skimmer! But now after this pump problem and after seeing videos right now on how the super reef octopus 1000 performs... well... This one is a banano.... bad yuyu... This one makes like 1/4 of the bobbles that the octopus does... sigh...

I run the reef octopus super space saver 1000 that I beat Chris to. I like it as it works great and has a smaller footprint than most.
