i'm building partitions in an old tank of mine that has been drilled on the side for pump. it seems to be cheaper to buy plexiglass and cut it then glass. I did not see glass large enough at home depot. i called a glass company and for glass pieces 18 x 20 was about $21 and for plexiglass $31. seems a lot for each partition. do i just go to home depot and buy the plexiglass they have and cut it to size or what. i'm thinking i just should have bought a new sump. looking for answers before i buy the pieces tomorrow. thanks.

You can swing by regal plastics on rittiman and buy their scrap for about $1/lb. I bought a pile of about 50lbs for $30 and have been using it for the last two years or so. Still have some too.
18x20 is a big baffle, is it for a 125-150?

go to Home Depot and buy the plexi. It is cheaper there and they have silicon that works for glass and plexi so it will work for the partitions. I think the price for an 18x24 of the thick stuff was 18.00 another consideration is the plastic company off the 35 access road near Walzem . They charge 5.00 a square ft and cut it. They also have many colors. I guess it depends on how big of a piece that you need to cover your project. Good luck!

Yes, ask them for scrap. They have a section they will take you to and let you pick what you want.
Just to touch on the silicone discussion, I use GE Silicone I to build my sumps. I use it on acrylic baffles in a glass tank and have never had a failure.

That price for glass seems really high. I would call a glass store and price it if you feel you want glass. I think I paid about 4 or 5 dollars a baffle when I built the sump for my 180. This was about two years ago now though.

stopped by regal plastics and bought some scrap pieces. bought about 5 pieces 19x19 for about 12 bucks. $1/lb. they have cool stuff they make their. the guys were cool there, even gave me a soda from the ice box. where else can you go buy scraps for 12 bucks and get a free soda out of it. thats cool customer service.

Haha, that's pretty cool. I would go there more often if they were open hours I wasn't at work.

Thanks for the info, wasn't sure where to buy some at. The aquarium silicone they sell at the LFS are expensive!
