Hey guys, its been quite a while since I've been on here but I do need quite a bit of help. Since I've last posted I've had several ups and down in my reefing and I want to get it all back on track. Here's my setup10 Gallon AGA2x False Occelaris 3x Hairy Mushrooms (all split from the same one)A couple of hermit crabs20 lbs Live sand Approximately 8lbs of LR.1x Korealia Nano1x Biocube Protein Skimmer1x T5 light, running 2x 24w actinicsMy tank has basically become a graveyard for my corals. It started with the Zoa's first, then the GSP, and then the snails. All due to lack of husbandry on my part due to long hours of work and school picking up. As it stands, I want to make my tank look beautiful again so I need your help. What should I start with first? I'm going to be doing a water change tonight and should be maintaining a regular schedule from here on out. My goal is to have everything up to capacity (corals) by mid January. For christmas I will be purchasing the tank a Par38 LED so the lighting will be getting an upgrade and after getting my WC's on track I'm going to add the CUC. I would also like to start dosing the tank and the brand I was going to use is B-Ionic. Is that a pretty decent brand or is there a better one? Thanks for reading and helping me out! Also if anyone has a par38 lamp, what size optics work best on a standard 10 gallon? I heard the 60's do fine. I want this tank to be a zoa garden so let's get this going! Also anyone in the San Marcos area who is a fellow reefer send me a message, the hobby is much easier and more enjoyable when you can meet and converse with people in your area.

Regular water changes and stability are the keys to a successful nano tank. Like you said, you start having problems when you start slacking. Make sure to keep your salinity and water temps stable and your tank should be fine.

Personally I wouldn't dose a 2 part system on a tank that small. Your water changes should handle any depleted calcium and minerals. Not too sure on the led optics. I'm old school. Hopefully someone else can chime in. Best of luck to you!

Pretty much nailed it. Get a good high quality salt (you can afford it because its a smaller tank and you dont have to buy supplements) and just do regular water changes. Definitely wouldnt need to dose 2 part with zoas as they dont take up much of what is in 2 part.

I would go w/ the 60 degree optics unless you could do 80 but you would get a lot of light spill with those.

An auto top off, hang on back fuge, and a 70watt metal halide light was a recipe for success for Kyle at GC Reef. He had a killer 10 gallon system for a while before he upgraded.

Thanks guys. After getting everything in order with my water schedules, I'm going to purchase a new CUC, the like I said for Christmas, update the lights. When will I know when my tank is ready for corals again? Should I buy a small frag and see how it does or are there signs to look for? Thanks again for all your responses.

With such a small tank I'd just buy some Live Rock and enough Live Sand from an Established Reef Aquarium. That should set you back less than $50 and would speed up your wait time dramatically.

So after a couple of weeks, I can see some definite improvement in the tank. The lovely folks at Phenomenal Aquatics sold me an awesome CUC last week and after a little less then the week and an adjustment on my photoperiod I can some definite improvement in the algae on my tank. My water params are also getting into check and so I think this week I'm going to buy a small Zoa frag and see how it does. I'll keep you guys updated!

Pics please!

I've kept various sized nanos exclusively for ~7 years now with my current 30 gallon about to turn 3 years old. I agree with Cory's earlier statement about water changes. Whenever I notice something amiss, a water change normally clears it right up.

However, I have plenty of SPS in my tank so I dose BIonic two part and DTs magnesium. I would not suggest dosing for your tank with it's current inhabitants.

Good luck!

Agreed. My first task is to eradicate the algae (or at least a good amount of it). Then I'm going to purchase the new lights and adjust the corals to said light. From there I'm going to maybe work on an HOB refugium or an in tank surface skimmer.

Depending on the age/type of lights a replacement may be needed. IME, old lights can wreak havok as far as algae growth goes. A refugium sounds like a great idea but I'd consider a skimmer upgrade. A good skimmer will pull more waste from your system than a refugium can.

Do you know of any good HOB Skimmer that would fit on a 10 gallon tank? And yeah, the lights are definitely going in soon. Just have to figure out my optics size and then I should be good to order.

There are several. It really depends on how much you want to spend.

I currently use the AquaC Remora (http://www.f3images.com/IMD/MD_images/aquarium/ps_ac_acr_s.jpg). It functions well for me. They also make a AquaC Remora Nano (http://www.f3images.com/IMD/aquarium_images/protein_skimmer_aquac_nano_remora.jpg) which may be more suited for your tank. If I were to buy a new skimmer I would go with either the AquaMaxx HOB1 (http://c2.f3images.com/IMD/250/UJ1151/AquaMaxx-HOB-1-Hang-On-Back-Protein-Skimmer-1.jpg) or the Deltec MCE500 (or MCE600) (http://www.theaquariumsolution.com/files/imagecache/279_279/files/products/MC-500.jpg).

Did you buy a fixture for the light yet? or Were you planning on hanging it?

I'm kind of partial to the adjustable desk lamp fixtures with the Par38s.

I'm going with this fixture right here:

http://www.officemax.com/office-furniture/lighting/desk-and-floor-lamps/product-prod3300097?csId=2-69-4064-56-3-75106-75118-56-4064-602-56-4064-11217-0-2

I've seen a couple of other reefers use it with a slight modification and have had great results. All they did was remove the bulb guard and put some zip ties on the the joint so it doesn't move and apparently it works pretty good.

Just a quick update, today I purchased the Lamp, ordered two new Maxi-Jet 400 Pro's, and purchased a Tetra 30 HOB to hold my chemipure as well as provide flow. I'm now working on a way to mount night lights either to the Par unit itself or some other way I haven't thought of yet :). Pics to come soon!

So the Maxi Jet 400 Pro came in today, problem is, it seems like too much flow. Does anyone have one set up in a 10 gallon? I'm angling it up towards the surface. Maybe I could be wrong, but how will I know if the flow is too much?

I have an MP40 in a 30 gallon tank. IMO, you can never have too much flow (within reason).

Positioning your pump may take some time, in order to find the "just right" spot. I look for several things when positioning a pump such as; Are my corals opening? Is the sand staying put? Is the water going to splash out of my tank? etc... Keep in mind that your Maxi Jet 400 is a stream of water, don't directly aim it at corals. There are modifications available for Maxi Jets to allow for a more broad flow rather than a stream.

HTHs.

Well, when I had set it up, the fish freaked out, the corals seemed to be getting blasted, and sand was rearranging itself in the aquarium. The circulation mode is 500 GPH in a 10 gallon and combined with the size of the unit, there was no real way to arrange it properly with my current rock work. I'm going to be getting some new LR and after aquascaping again, but if that does not work then I'll just stick with the 2x maxi-jets with the 150 GPH option and the Filter providing another 130 GPH. The corals seemed to enjoy that a little more haha.

Edit: I'll post a vid when I get my camera in from Amazon, but what does the right amount of flow for say, a duncan coral look like? Can someone link me to a vid, my coral seemed to be getting blown around, but It was fully open..

Just a quick update on things. About 3 weeks ago, the tank was moved to San Marcos for my spring semester of school. Everything was going well and after placing a nice sized order from Mr. Coral I started running into some problems. Two days ago I noticed that my water seemed warmer then where I like it at. I touched my heater and the thing was EXTREMELY HOT. Apparently the Stealth Pro got recalled last april/may and after printing out the documents and going to a local petco. I no have an Aqueon submersible heater in the tank. Only problem is it seems that there was a small crack in the glass of the heater and so after a phone call Petco is special ordering me the Aqueon "Pro" heater and covering the cost of the difference! Heater should be here Sometime this week and the frags shortly afterwards! Now time to find a place to put them all..

Ok, so the corals were shipped at around 6PM from Maryland and arrived at my apartment at 10, I unpacked everything which was EXTREMELY well packed (everything was triple bagged and there was a heating pack. After a couple hours of acclimation and a quick dip, the corals were in my tank. I received 18 total, gave two to a buddy of mine and had all but two opened within 3 hours of being put in the tank. I have 2 that are still closed but they are showing the first signs of opening. As of now, I'm very pleased with my order. My lights are about to turn on and when I'm out of class I'll take some pics of what I got.

So, it's been a bit so I thought I'd update you guys with some pics. Everything is growing well, I've had one frag of zoas croak on me and another one thats very meh.. but other then that, everything is doing fantastic. I was unable to go to the swap this weekend so instead, I picked up a BEAUTIFUL zoa colony from the Aquadome and it's easily become my favorite coral in the tank. Everything is going well and I'm looking into an LED build for a 20 long for when I upgrade this summer. If you look at some of the older pictures you can see how beautiful my smaller duncan is turning out to be.

Well here are the pics! I purchased a pretty nice tripod so I'm working on a video of the tank!

Also, I'm considering entering either the feather duster or the zoa close up picture into the MAAST photo contest, let me know which you guys like better!

Yeah, one of the great pieces of advice that I've learned on this site was "regular water changes and stability are the keys to a successful nano tank". I change two gallons out twice a week and the fish and corals are absolutely loving it. One of the biggest things that also helped was moving my tank from my living room to my actual room. When it was in the living room, I never really got to sit down and look at it, now it's right next to my desk and anytime there is any problem I'm right no top of it.. no wonder my physics grade isn't so hot this semester ;).

I'm dealing with a small aptaisa infestation but this week when I get some time I'll pick up a bottle of aptaisa X and kill the buggers. Other then that, everything is going fantastic. I'm working on a video of everything and I'll probably just upload the one I took as a baseline back in December. It was pretty bad.

CoryDude
Mon, 26th Mar 2012, 10:56 PM
At least you'll get hands on knowledge of bernoulli's principle with a fish tank.

I went with berghia nudibranches for my aptaisia problem. A great natural way to combat the little devils.

Zack
Mon, 26th Mar 2012, 11:03 PM
There ya go! I could also practice light refraction through water. And I'll look into it, I'm still a bit sour about that Zoa eating nudibranch that nuked my zoas last July. Also, it's only one aptasia in the back so no need to call in the troops yet haha.

Here's a quick time lapse video I did of the tank this morning when the lights turned on. It's rather interesting watching the fish go to each coral and inspect it in the morning. Also, I've never seen the smaller clownfish host in the middle hairy shroom and I've never seen them take turns hosting it. Very interesting stuff happens when your not looking apparently.

what a great video, i may have to pick your brain about how to do this. even though there was no soundtrack, flight of the bumblebee pops into my head while watching.

If you have a mac it's actually pretty simple.

First, go ahead and film your movie. It can be as long or as short as you want and we can adjust the final movie time in imovie later.

After you have the movie filmed, open up imovie and go to File<import movie and select the clip. Then go to the Imovie Tab<preferences< and click "Show advanced tools".

After the film imports which will take a while, your then going to create a project and drag the entire clip (or whatever part of the clip) into the project.

After you have the flip in the project your going to select the entire clip (command A) and the go to clip<mute clip. You can keep the volume, however when you speed it up it'll sound quite odd. Of course this is a personal preference.

After the clip is muted you then hit command A and double click on the clip. A menu for your movie will pop up showing you a slider bar. You can then drag it to speed up or slow down your video. You can also reverse the video from this bar. The video will then be shortened or sped up.

From here, you can click the Music note on the screen and drag your music into the video and then your done! Go to share>youtube and upload your video!

If you don't have a mac I'm sure the process is the same on any basic movie editor and from start to finish excluding load times it only takes a minute or two to change everything!

Also, that song fit perfectly into the video, I'll toss it in there when I get home :)

Everything is growing well and I picked up a trumpet coral and a small frogspawn from Phenomenal Aquatics last weekend. Though it took over a year in planning, I unfortunately do not. I had to plan and build it around my work which was pretty hectic to say the least. I have a ton of tips on what "Not" to do.... and a little of what to do. Just kidding of course. What did you have questions on? Ask away or PM me.

I just upgraded the lights to a 150w K2 Viper. The par38 had a bit too much spotlighting for me, and really limited what I could keep in my tank and where I could keep it. I would say two of these par38's would do the tank perfectly, however I got the K2 for the same price as one par38 and the K2 will do the eventual 20 gallon tall that I plan to upgrade to sometime later this year.

Man how are you getting that good growth?

I've been doing 2 gallon water changes twice a week on a pretty regular schedule, I also lengthened my photo period by 2 hours since I wasn't seeing any algae growth and it was somewhat short to begin with. About 3 weeks ago, I had my water tested and my calcium and alk were low so I started using my 2 part kent nano solution every second day after the water changes and the corals have been loving it. I don't feed my corals so it must be the Par from the LED's (now halides) and the chemicals in the water that are making em' grow. How's your tank man?

Edit: That was kind of confusing, here's my schedule for WC's

Sunday- 2 gallon WC
Monday- N/A
Tuesday- Add 2 part
Wed-WC
Thursday- N/A
Friday Add 2 part
Sat- N/A

haha, you crack me up with the background sounds. The Office and Andy's wedding on the top down and New York Steelio on the last one. haha

Tank looks great bro. Nice and clear vids too.

Thanks! And yeah, I'm usually always watching something while I'm "doing HW" and with my computer the videos take forever to render into imovie and then mute and add a music clip and then process it out to an mp4 so I just leave it in, I have the unmuted clips of some of the other videos I filmed in the past and I still crack up when I watch them :lauging:

Also, I purchased a subcurrent internal suface skimming filter to get rid of some surface film and add a bit more flow to the tank. I had to take off the filter I had running in the back due to the k-2's mounting bracket so the filter will hold my chemi-pure and hit some deadspots in the back.

Zack
Wed, 25th Apr 2012, 07:48 PM
Just a quick update, the subcurrent filter came in yesterday and dang, that thing is quite a bit larger than I thought it would be but it's doing a great job of removing surface scum. Also, I ran out of salt mix (was using instant ocean) so I decided to pick a more "reef" friendly salt. My choices were reef crystals and kent reef salt and I went with kent since the size I was looking at came with it's own jar. Also, since when is a bucket of reef crystals 80$? I strictly remember it being around 50-60$ tops. Maybe the petco has some sort of monopoly on the salt trade here in San Marcos/Kyle.

As for the livestock, I picked up a rose bubble tip for crazy cheap from phenomenal and as of now it's doing quite well and I really hope it stays that way. I also picked up a small zoa frag and my contest polyp however the latter isn't looking as good as I thought. Maybe it needs more time or a new spot in the tank.

So just a quick update, everything has been doing quite well. The corals are responding very well to the kent marine salt so I think I'll be using that exclusively from here on out. The tank is going to be moved to San Antonio for the Summer so fingers crossed that everything goes well!

Zack
Wed, 9th May 2012, 10:36 PM
So that was the worst tank move ever. It was hot as heck and I had to move it alone in my tiny car along with the rest of my stuff. The sand moved around a bit and I was in a hurry to aquascape so I'm 90% sure my thermometer is buried somewhere in my tank. Although it was bad, I did decide to mess with the clowns by putting them in the same bucket as the rock with the anemone. I just checked on them and their hosting it together so that's AWESOME :D. I also accidentally broke off my big duncan and a couple of zoas so tomorrow I'm going to go buy some glue to put em' back on.

its going well. I got into work today to find my 6 line laying on top of the filter pad in the back. It was still alive becuase water was pooring over the top of it. I put it in the tank and now just waiting for it to come back out to see if its ok.

I have seen some growth but not nearly as much as you have with your tank. I really need to get some LED's for the tank so that I can get better growth. I can only do so much with the stock PC lights.

Yeah, this metal halide is crazy for this tank. I'm adding a sump here in the next couple weeks with an ATO so that'll make my life easier. Post some pics in your thread, I'd love to see how everythings doing.

Zack
Wed, 30th May 2012, 05:01 PM
Here's some pics I took today, everything is doing well, I moved the metal halide up another 6'' and my anemone moved up with it, so I lowered it a bit and adjusted the angle on it and the nem moved back *sigh of relief* I have just received a bunch of plumbing parts and purchased the tubing from Edward so sometime in the next week or so when I get some free time I'm going to move the tank onto a different stand and add a sump. My wife is going to be purchasing me an MP-10 for my birthday which is awesome and I got a sweet bonus check from work for making our quarter so I put that into a reef keeper lite with sl1 and PH probe.

Awesome tank.

Thanks guys! I just did a bit of a spending spree and picked up:

Vortech MP10 (unfortunately I didn't get the wireless one but I'll be doing that down the road)
Reefkeeper lite
SC-150 Skimmer (Bubble magnus clone)

And I just plumbed my sump into the system which added another 10 or so gallons of water weight to the tank. Sometime this summer I do want to upgrade to a 15 to give me a bit of width to work with but for now everything seems to be doing very well with the 10 gallon. I got 3 sps frags last weekend from Troyvalentine and they all are doing well and I got a 4th from phenomenal about 2 weeks ago and I'm seeing some white growth tips. I'll get some pictures up when my water clears up a bit more, I made a mistake when adding the sump and didn't give the filter sock a good enough rinse so my water was a bit hazy and the soft corals seemed to not like it too much. The SPS were not really phased. Looking to have the skimmer and the rest of the equipment all setup by mid june.

Woke up this morning and the toadstool is opened up again, both duncans till not looking so good. Green zoa colony is doing well and blues are starting to somewhat open again. I believe the dead polyp on the red zoas was from when the anemeone tried moving a week ago.

Zack
Fri, 15th Jun 2012, 02:39 PM
With the exception of the Duncans and the vertical zoa frag, all other corals seem back to normal. I did a water change last night and sucessfully added a filter sock (rinsed the heck out of this one) and this morning the fedex man dropped off my reefkeeper lite. I got it all setup and now I'm just staring at it and all it's glory haha.

So my tank is slowly chugging along, I haven't gotten the big duncan to fully recover but it's on it's way up. The small duncan is about 90%.

So here's a quick text update:

Equipment change

- 150w metal halide
+ 2x slimline s12
+RKL
+ Mp10W

I've also moved my frogspawn up to a rock since the nem moved and cleared up a nice bit of space for it. I picked up two nice zoa frags yesterday so if all goes well I can take some pics of everything tomorrow.

BSJF
Wed, 18th Jul 2012, 07:41 AM
Based on the video, i would say your frogspawn is reaching out and touching the one duncan. Also, that is also a lot of flow on the damaged duncans. Once they are healthy again, they can probably handle it.

Everything else looks wonderful! Duncans are actually pretty hardy so I would expect them to turnaround.

So here's a brief text update:

First off, this auto top off is awesome. I feel that it adds more enjoyment to my tank. I'm no longer checking the sump to make sure their is still water in the gravity fed ATO and I can just relax and enjoy the tank and fill the ATO once every 3 days. I'm looking to get a larger container, maybe around 4 gallons, and if I do that would make my life a lot easier.

On another note, man those LED's kick butt. Ever since I've switched to them I've seen a huge increase in growth and overall color of my zoas. This could be due to a few things but I honestly think it has to do with the built in timer simulating a natural sunrise/ sunset + moonlight. It could also be that my tank is no longer getting to 80 degrees during the day due to no more MH but I doubt 1 degree would have that much of an effect on growth.

The tank will be taken down and moved to san marcos. From there I plan to upgrade it (hopefully before Thanksgiving) to a 20 long. I'll be posting as it happens and I'll let you guys know how that goes. Wish me luck!

And last but not least, I've started using Clear FX pro after reading some good things about it online. I made the switch a few days ago and I'll be posting results in here.

That's it for this update, I'll try and make some sort of video comp before the move. Any ideas of a good song?

Zack
Fri, 10th Aug 2012, 10:36 PM
So I've FINALLY gotten to play around with the Mp10 modes (been on vacation/ staycation for a week and a half) and man, that reef crest mode is kick butt! Love seeing it ramp up and slow down and the corals reactions.

So tank is moved!

Everything went well, about to run and get some RO water to fill my sump to capacity (well midway at least) and then I'll be good. Zoas look pretty mad and I knocked my duncan off the rock, but I had super glue handy!

Good news so far: my roomates seem cool, I haven't met them but they left a nice little note for me, also, the apartment was cold when I came home so no awkward convos with me begging them to keep the house cold while everyone is out.

-Ben-

Zack
Tue, 14th Aug 2012, 10:07 PM
Well.. the other day one started closing up, it has algae growing on it so it was before the move, the second looks shrivled up and has algae starting to grow on it. Idk if it's cause this place is a bit colder, or what, because all the zoas on that same rock are doing fine. I'm not sure why, hopefully they pull through :/, they are the pink paly's in the video.

Scutterborn
Wed, 15th Aug 2012, 06:28 AM
Well, they did have a traumatic day yesterday. I'd make sure to keep any algae off of them. If its enough to keep them from opening they have little chance of making it. I have some Zoas I got from Ace that are one of my favorites. They began to get gha and I had to clean them every other day. They are doing great now.

- Ben -

Zack
Wed, 15th Aug 2012, 11:49 AM
I'll do that! I had my tank in total darkness last night (the slimlines timer is internal and has to be set in the AM) and when I turned on the lights to start the timer this morning I saw some copepods/ snails on those two zoas, as of this morning, the green/red palys are not open, and... the pink ones are starting to look 100x better. Still not opening all the way but 3 of 7 heads are looking about 85%!

My toadstool is still mad and beginning to barely open and my gsp is the same, but other than that everything is good!

Tank is moved into the bigger tank! Everything went well.. sorta, I forgot to clean off the bottom before I painted so there is an odd black tint on one corner but I covered it with a large frag so it's hidden . Pictures of the new tank when everything opens up!

Sweet man! Can't wait to see the pics. Did you lose anything?

Zack

I didn't lose anything as of yet, the paly's (both pink ones) that looked bad from the initial move still are slowly coming back but other than that, the sensitive stuff like the RBTA made it! I'm uploading few short videos onto youtube. If I get some time this weekend I'll make a full edited video.

Looks great! I think I am gonna take the plunge back into the Nano arena soon. I miss it after many years of not having one. It's been over 8 years for me. I will post the build if I do. Your tank gives me the bug to do it. As well as other great Nano's on here.

Just curious, to those with a bare bottom system, what snails are you guys using? I know Nassarius are out of the question and I just got rid of the last of mine and would like to have something doing their job. I believe the other snails I'm using are ceriths.

Other than that, everything is going nicely. I need to get my WC schedule back on track but other than that, no losses and everything is growing. I gave a few corals I had extra to Josh when his tank crashed and got rid of my feather duster due to it not doing as great because of the BB.

A few updates:

I'll be adding sand this week to the tank, no real reason why, purely asthetics and preference
I'll be getting rid of the clowns to Ben, I have to make way for 2x darwin clowns from Polly's
I re-aquascaped the tank to make for a more open aquascape and to better utilize the added dimensions of the tank
Some of my zoas have been wasting away and loosing color, I think it may be due to lack of nutrients in the water. I've been increasing feedings and running my skimmer only during the day and I hope to begin seeing an increase in color. This is putting off any new coral additions until this is solved
I am going to be running a 175w metal halide fixture with my slimlines on a blue cycle only for actinic/ sunrise/ sunset
My CUC has slightly dropped due to predation of snails by hermits, so I'm going to be buffing up the CUC this weekend at Phenominal

Please note, the chormis' are just there while my tank sits without clowns, they are also they to produce more wastes for my zoas.

Here's a video, when I add sand, I'm going to move the GSP up to the rocks on the left to make it look like one structure

Thanks Rob! I really took inspiration from Teebs old aquascape in his 40 breeder. I gotta get one more rock to make a flat bridge but other than that it looks good. The middle areas allow for lower flow and areas for clams etc.. Can't wait to get this thing back to speed!

Thanks alot ben. I made a frame for my canopy and mounted the LED's on them. The colors blend much better now. Pics once I get back from class.

I saw this in the FTS thread, I really like how clean it looks. Makes me sad face at my reef. So much so that I thought about rescaping, then realized that would require me to do something.

Zack
Thu, 15th Nov 2012, 02:52 PM
Thanks a lot! I had the same aquascape for almost a year and a half and one day decided to re-scape to better use my tanks dimensions. In my opinion it was a great decision. I also added sand to make it look more like a reef. Post and FTS of your tank!

I was originally going for the canyon look with two islands, but I ended up with this. I do like it, just needs something else. First time I've ever scaped once and left it as-is. I know my 29 changed daily when it was cycling.

Oh yeah, I remember that build. What kit and what company did you go with?

rrasco
Thu, 15th Nov 2012, 03:25 PM
No kit. The LEDs are bridgelux emitters (the ones people say are not good enough) but I built the fixtures from 3/4" channel and encased in an acrylic housing I made as well. LEDs came from aquastyle online. Drivers are also custom.

Zack
Thu, 15th Nov 2012, 03:26 PM
In your opinion are the LED's "good enough"?

I saw some people saying they were not good on RC and Nano-reef, just curious what your opinion is on them?

rrasco
Thu, 15th Nov 2012, 03:34 PM
They're plenty good enough. I've grown everything under them. In fact, if I turn them up over 50% it starts killing everything because it's too much light.

The people saying they are not good enough probably already spent the money on CREE. You know how people are with name-brand stuff, especially once they made the investment.

The bam bams aren't looking too well but everything else is doing awesome. I think the yellow and green ones (not the rastas) have a new head. I also moved your crab into the tank and took down your tank.

Zack
Tue, 8th Jan 2013, 07:57 PM
So.. in the process of making a new video. Found the perfect song today and started filming. Unfortunately, I also chose today to nuke aptaisa so that put a hold on some of the footage. Also, torch is still looking pretty bad, same with the toadstool after I removed the rock to nuke the hairy shrooms.

When everything is opened up, I'll finish the video.

Zack
Thu, 17th Jan 2013, 11:43 PM
So for a OCD tank person like myself.. the worst thing happened today...

I put a pretty nice set of scratches on the right wall of my tank and put a small one inch scratch on the front pane.. I had a dream the other day that I tore the tank down and set it up with hard plumbing and an over flow box with a 29 gallon tank.. this gives me one more reason to do it. Also, I need a new mag float, this one commited treason.

Video should be done tomorrow though, just got to fill 30 more seconds.

Dude, just go do a 40b. You know you wanna...

You went from the 10 to the 20L, now possibly a 29. I just sayin...

:)

Zack
Fri, 18th Jan 2013, 12:49 AM
Haha i have my mind set on at 29 because it'll fit on my current stand.. although I do have a brand spanking new 40 breeder sitting in my closet at my parents house..

Anyones else think the extra 9 gallons would make a difference?

BSJF
Fri, 18th Jan 2013, 01:51 AM
Yes. Especially if you are using an overflow box like in your dream.

Zack
Fri, 18th Jan 2013, 01:53 AM
Well, I already have an overflow box, but it's an HOB which is annoying to deal with, I want one hard plumbed in with a hole drilled into the tank. I had meant in reguards to weight on the wooden stand.

And in terms of live stock, I do hope the 9 gallons gives me stability to run some sps in my tank

Zack
Tue, 5th Feb 2013, 09:29 PM
Yeah, that's partially one of the reasons I'm considering startin this tank from scratch, it's slowly taking over the left most rock. And thanks paul!

polarbear
Thu, 7th Feb 2013, 09:47 AM
Hey Zack if you start over you should isolate the GSP off to the side by itself. Maybe towards a corner so that it will attach to the glass. That way it will be easier to trim by scraping it off the glass. Thats where I have mine at and its starting to attach to the glass and not the other rocks.

Zack
Thu, 7th Feb 2013, 10:09 AM
Yeah that was a huge mistake on my part lol.. I may just buy a new peice of rock and re glue all my frags to it, then sell this piece.

Thu, 7th Mar 2013, 12:37 PM
So I've been absent here for a while, and that is due to a close family member having brain surgery. I've been pretty much in and out of class and then back to san antonio and my tanks been let down a bit, so back to buisness. It appears to be cyano and a bit of hair algae due to lack of water changers so that's the first thing I'm going to get back on schedule now that they are out of the hospital and doing well.

I know I had some coral transactions I needed to do a few weeks ago and If I haven't gotten to you, please excuse the delay.

That's all for now though, have two tests and work and then a bunch of water changes to do.
