Does anyone have a fish trap I can buy or borrow today? I know Jack was attempting to design a smaller one, but I can't wait any longer.

This tribal blenny is destroying my tank!!!

I might even have to tear down.

Update - Caught!!!

We have successfully used a juice bottle with fishing line attached. It is small enough to keep out the bigger fish...

I will say that we had no luck with our stupid flametail blenny. He is too smart to go into any trap and we have tried multiple times/types. Wishing you better luck.

Thanks guys, I'm going to try the juice bottle trick now, and I'll get back to ya if I still need a trap.

So Mike (VP), you just bring it up fast with no door right?

If you use a bottle and cut the top and flip it upside down, fish normally can't find the hole to get out, so no door necessary. Getting them to go in it is the tricky part though. I have had about 1 in 10 success rate with the bottle trick. So I'm telling you there's a chance! :P

Correct. It helps to put food in there, so the fish are tempted to go in...

Even then, fish are smarter than we sometimes lead ourselves to believe! I swear I've had fish look at me like, "You think I'm going in there?"

Today is a great day, I caught the little tribal blenny!!!

I stoped by Elegent Reef this past weekend and Louis let me borrow his fish trap. I let it set for a couple days then baited it and patiently waited till he ventured inside then BAM, I trapped the bugger. I was really surprised he went inside - the last fish to go in. It took some careful seting up by his favorite perching area - but worth it.

Now I just hope my corals recover from the damage he put on them.

Oh, btw he's available if anyone is interested in the coral eater...he's not-so-chilling in my sump.

How big is he and what corals did he eat? He might be able to go into my fish only, but that is still in the beginning stages of getting plumbing put together and stuff. He could go into one of the 2 temp tanks in the meantime, depending on the above stuff. If he is too small, then I think he might be lunch and I do have some corals I like in my FOWLR (mushrooms, star polyps, palys).

Honestly, I wouldn't trust him with anything. I've seen him pick on gorgs, zoas/palys, and sps... but not shrooms, lps, or rics. He's around 3 inches or so and very healthy. Right now he's in the sump and looks very colorful - has the tribal marks showing on his head. I'm in no rush so whenever you or anyone is ready.

Oh no Karin! I'm never putting one those in my tank again. They have expensive tastes.

ShAgMaN, you're right, it will do great in a lps tank. That's where mine was banished to. Your sps should recover nicely. It took about 2-4 weeks for mine to completely heal up.

Woot! Congrats! My bicolor was a model citizen for over a year and then started nipping a brain. Now, I don't trust any blenny. There are too many other fish in the sea.
