My first lighting choice was the Evolution 14k 1watt bricks. purchased 3 "ouch!!"

After i got the plumbing setup the way i wanted, the refugium is a trigger system, acrylic and about 50gallons...

Octopus Skimmer.

U.V. sterilizer

basic setup....

After it was all running and tested fine, i moved everything from my 72g bowfront to the 210g.
Didnt loose anybody in the move.

The lighting wasnt enough for me, so i bumped it up with 4xGLO T5 Ballasts
after a few months i wasnt getting the reaction outta my sps.
Bumped it up with 2x250w halides...
Now getting the insane growth, as far as ive seen... Sure theres some enthusists that would put me to shame
Visit my profile for pics, i will try to get an update soon, as i am out of town for awhile, so the tank is in my wife hands.

Got a call the other day that a rock fell over, 1 of 2 my scolys is found the other mia...
Also my Vortec mp60s showed up:bigsmile:, thanks to Elegant Reef for the help:applause:
Also in the future my FPclowns wont stop makin babies an with some help ill get a hatchery goin, no where near as nice as Aces.
And Another 210 waiting to be setup "predator" tank. any suggestions an recommends for that is greatly appreciated..

Looking at your pics, I've got to ask. How many pounds of live rock do you have? It looks like a lot.

Honestly i lost track, and i just added a couple man made rocks that were over 40lbs together. I would say some where around 170lbs,

No worries, I have sugar fine sand in my display and it took a few months, but it finally settled. :D My tank look liked a glass of milk. Heavier coarser sand should stay put fairly well. Get those puppies configured to master/slave configuration, and then put it on nutrient export mode. Watch your tank for 5 minutes, the wave you will get will amaze you!

they do spread fast! They use to cover the whole rock, then Outta no where they melted away. Found out my newer rocks I advanceadded had some ammonia an killed em. Got some orange zoas that grow wicked fast if anybody would like some

THanks to Elegant Reef, I tested the LEDs with a par meter, found out some interesting stuff...
I think i will look into maybe a couple bigger watt led systems, and move my three evolution bricks to the predator tank.

edshas2
Wed, 26th Oct 2011, 03:56 PM
What did you find out about the LEDs??

Smiller_00
Wed, 26th Oct 2011, 08:51 PM
my leds are not enough lol, tanks to deep for them,
at surface the leds put out just as much as the halides,
my left side is led and t5s. 4" under the water i measured 300pars , the readings jump around with the surface movement. 12" deep and it only measured 160pars and at the sand bed it measured a 100pars
the middle of my tank has one Led Brick tilted at a 45degree, with a 250w mh, t5s and at 4" it jumped around 230pars, 12" 200pars,sand bed 160pars
the right side has the same setup but the led brick pointed towards the left side 45degrees, 300pars at 4", 200 pars 12", and 160pars at the sand bed

LEDS by themselves, only put out 100 and lower...

So what i learned that the angled bricks aren't even doing anything so i need to decide where to move them or just add another mh, with better reflectors, and save the bricks for my predator tank.
but Louis had brought a good point up, just move my 2 mh to the left and right sides, and move the 3 bricks to the center an lower them as much as i can without splashing them...
im not sure where to go with it...
open for ideas..

what are the optics on that fixture? (degree lenses)

Smiller_00
Wed, 26th Oct 2011, 09:05 PM
uhhh... got me on that one, All i can tell you is they are Evolution 20k bricks, purchased from aqurium design, im sure i could do a little digging and find out

Europhyllia
Wed, 26th Oct 2011, 09:08 PM
I am not familiar with that brand. I have a DIY fixture and an AI fixture. I have 60 degree lenses on the DIY and a mix of 40 degree and 70 degree on the AI fixture. The more spread you get the less focused/intense the light I believe.

Loving the new ecotechs, water has never been so clear an my skimmer is going nuts from all the debris. Unfortunately when I got home, ( work schedule is 6days on 3the off) I see that nasty red slime again, never fails to some how sneak its way back. Anybody else dealing with it??

Smiller_00
Fri, 4th Nov 2011, 11:46 PM
All I could get from the par test that unless my led bricks are straight down then they are worthless... so trying to figure out if I take them out an add a 3 mh, or put the 2 mh on the outsides an cram all 3 bricks in the center portion.

Hey Seth, any updates on the squeaking from the MP60?

Are you set on using LED? The new Vertex Illumina is AMAZING! If you want to go with a MH/T5 Combo have a look at the Maristar fixture, 3x250w HQI and 4x 39w T5HO.

quick update, gave up on the LED for now, upgraded the tank with a 400mh, and dual 250mh on the sides, and 8 t5 atinics, and some day ill build my own led system, been talking with a few companys to help me through the build, still getting frustrated with my aquascaping, never seem happy with what i do, and have difficulties deciding where corals should go an keep a good flow through out the tank,

Very nice tank! I love the look of the zoas spilling onto the sand and keep on growing. You know that is a happy, healthy reef!

Is that a red goniopora (flower pot) up on top, right of center? I have a friend who has been looking for one like that forever.

Now the bad news is i have to move this TANK! but thanks to Luis at Elegant Reef we will have the help we need. Well i will put up some pics up before the move so if i loose anything ill have some pics to enjoy it. But i will be setting up a new tank, with a bigger sump "yippy" but im gonna have to run submersible pumps, need some help on which brand i should go with. Need one to run around 1300gph and a 800gph im thinking, the smaller one to go through the chiller, and the other just to move some water. any tips will be apreciated!

Thanks lucky, hey what does your hood look like with the 3 mh, I have a new hood and found out there is no room to work under now And I didn't place the tank far enough from the wall so I can't push the hood all the way back because my 400w reflector hits the wall, but I do need to bring the reflector further forward, just wondering if you built your own

my lights were installed by nick from elegant reef....I am using 3x lumenbright reflectors which requires a gud 15" distance from the water surface for a gud spread..So we decided to let MH sit on the canopy rather than mounting them in the canopy....i also hve 12x t5s retrofit in the canopy...and infact they dnt look bad atall by looking at em ...

these holes been cut about 1" smaller than the diameter of the mh reflectors so they dnt fall in the tank....
