Just thought i'd try to start logging by progress and have a place to ask questions specific to my tank.

So for starters some friend's were giving away their 100 gallon fresh water tank with a xp3 canister.

I refinished the stand and painted the trim on the tank as their cat left its mark on it. Then swapped all the sand and rock over from my 75 only to find out the tank had a slow leak on the corner seam. So back into the 75 everything went So I could reseal it. After that i swapped everything back over to the 100 and all is well. Currently I'm running 2 rena xp3 canisters for filtration and run a nova 8 bulb t5. Lately a noticed the tank is reaching temps of up to 89 degrees. The tank is placed in the middle of a living room of a log cabin with no central a/c unit and the window units are cutting it anymore so I recently bought a chiller. The tank is viewable from all 4 sides and i would like to keep it that way but also need to cool it. Not wanting to drill the tank for a sump but wanting to keep the "island" style look I'm in a bit of a jam. The tank has been set up for about 10 weeks and is home to 4 black&white damsels 1 blue damsel and a small sailfin tang.

I'm looking for the best way to plumb the chiller but keep a clean look.
What i thought about doing was running the 2 outlets of the xp3's together and tie them into the chillers inlet and then the chillers outlet back to the display tank. (hope that makes sense.)

I was also wondering once water is being pumped through the chiller and the chiller shuts off does water continue to flow through it but not cooled? or does the chiller stop water from passing thru?

Any ideas and advice would be greatly appreciated!

It looks very nice! I have heard of tethering 2 rena xps together meaning the tank drains into 1 rena then the outlet from that one goes to the second rena inlet and the outlet from the second chiller going to the tank. But for it to go to a chiller is something different. Someone with experience with chillers will chime in and help ya out. Good luck to ya

Once the water cools down to the desired temp the chiller simply shuts off the condenser and water still flows thru freely but without being cooled.

I think you might be able to put the chiller after the second filter but only thing I think might go wrong is that the filters pump won't be strong enough to pump the water thru the chiller then up to the tank there is alot of twist and turns inside a chiller

Thank for all the advice. i ended up installing a sump with a rio 2100 as a return pump. Will it be string enough to run the chiller aswell as be a return pump? it has about 3 feet of head pressure.

And have the chiller dump into the display or back into the sump?

Just run a closed loop in the sump for the chiler. I've gotten away with a rio 2100 with 3ft of head pressure and on a chiller that was plumbed outside. You should be just fine. Plus the 2100 has 3/4" fittings which should match the openings on your chiller.

Don't forget to use clamps on every fitting. You don't want a hose popping off your chiller or pump.

Brody, post some pics with all of your new livestock for the people! Your tank looks way better now. Show them the Aqua Top dual powerhead and how we are not afraid of generic brand hardware haha.
