Just thought i'd try to start logging by progress and have a place to ask questions specific to my tank.
So for starters some friend's were giving away their 100 gallon fresh water tank with a xp3 canister.
I refinished the stand and painted the trim on the tank as their cat left its mark on it. Then swapped all the sand and rock over from my 75 only to find out the tank had a slow leak on the corner seam. So back into the 75 everything went So I could reseal it. After that i swapped everything back over to the 100 and all is well. Currently I'm running 2 rena xp3 canisters for filtration and run a nova 8 bulb t5. Lately a noticed the tank is reaching temps of up to 89 degrees. The tank is placed in the middle of a living room of a log cabin with no central a/c unit and the window units are cutting it anymore so I recently bought a chiller. The tank is viewable from all 4 sides and i would like to keep it that way but also need to cool it. Not wanting to drill the tank for a sump but wanting to keep the "island" style look I'm in a bit of a jam. The tank has been set up for about 10 weeks and is home to 4 black&white damsels 1 blue damsel and a small sailfin tang.
I'm looking for the best way to plumb the chiller but keep a clean look.
What i thought about doing was running the 2 outlets of the xp3's together and tie them into the chillers inlet and then the chillers outlet back to the display tank. (hope that makes sense.)
I was also wondering once water is being pumped through the chiller and the chiller shuts off does water continue to flow through it but not cooled? or does the chiller stop water from passing thru?
Any ideas and advice would be greatly appreciated!
