Enjoyed reading about Brad Blankenship's 400g reef:

Especially interested in his salt mix of mixing Instand Ocean and Oceanic in equal parts...he also posted his recipe for fish food.

I keep hearing about mixing salts. Sounds like something to read up on.

See the orange BTA?! Looked like orange sherbert in his tank.

I mixed Oceanic and IO for years. It worked great and mixes easy. IO gives me the alk I want, and the Oceanic, the needed calcium and trace minerals.

Make sure you test before mixing two buckets. My Oceanic had a Ca of 600. It would suck to waste two buckets when only one was bad.

I did get a few batches that were very high calcium and eventually had to switch because of that.

I never mix the dry salt mix from the two containers, just mix them in the water. The main reason I don't mix it dry is that I might change the ratio based on if I need more calc or alk. But I also find it stores amd mixes better if you mix them in water. Mix the one with the higher alk first, then add the other.

"My tank is home to many unique creatures, but by far the star of show is my 24’ long x 16” wide Derasa clam"

Wow, that's a huge clam!!
