I've been keeping erectus seahorses for the past 4 years and have always struggled with the perfect feeding dish. I prefer to have a dish that the horses come to and that contains the mysis, rather than broadcast feeding. I'm also kind of lazy in the sense that I like to drop a frozen chunk of mysis in a tube and allow it to melt and sink into the dish. After all this time I finally had a custom acrylic seahorse dish made. I've been keeping my eyes open for one for the past 4 years on various sites and finally asked Jack from Mr. Cob's Wet Acrylic. I got it a week ago and I love it!! Jack does the best acrylic work I've seen. I have a rubble box from him as well. He's been very easy to work with and I'm very happy with the experience. I'm also having him make me one more that's just slightly wider and with a wrap around hitch. It'll be fun to see which the horses prefer :D

I wanted to also share some pictures of it. The bowl I had been using all along worked fine, except I had to unplug all pumps to use it or all the mysis would just blow out. Also, the seahorses couldn't really hold on to the sides of the bowl and they'd just slide into it and that would push the mysis out. This dish allows me to keep all the pumps on and the horses have a hitch, and I don't lose any mysis. I haven't decided yet exactly where I want to place it.

Mods, I couldn't decide if this was best placed here or in the seahorse forum, so please move if needed, thanks!

In the pics you can see how first I put the tube in the bowl, then put the chunk of frozen mysis in the tube to melt and sink. When all the mysis are in the bowl I can slowly pull the tube out and here come the seahorses to feast!

That's a real cool dish - digging the hitch.

Very nice and beautiful seahorses!
We are using the regular rubblebox for ours: http://www.maast.org/showthread.php?67381-Wet-Acrylic-Rubble-Box

Nice pics Kim!

They'll be added to the site soon. $25 for the standard trough Kim posted with 1 lrg perch.

Nice! Totally agree about how awesome Jack is to deal with for high-quality custom acrylic work that is very reasonably priced.

Since you mention 'standard' trough... does that mean there might be a different version of it that's non-standard?

I think this is cute fro small seahorses but it looks like even the Erectus like to go all the way into the bowl - my Reidis do too!
But the standard one would be too short to hitch in front and submerge the seahorse into the trough from the front where the hitch is located.
It looks like even the Erectus in the pics decided to go in from the side to be able to get their bodies in for that reason.

So for tallish ponies an XL version in the dimensions of a rubble box but with a cute little hitching post would be really nice!

Thanks for the nice comments. The rubble box is a fav of the horses to climb into :) Since my tank is only 18"x20" (30" deep though) It's kind of small LxW and I have a rubble box I use constantly for frags and such, so I wouldn't want a feeding dish also that large. I only have the small male that loves to dive in the mysis with his whole body. I did notice the large females like to eat from the side, which makes sense cause they're so large. That's why I'm excited to get the one just a little bigger with a wrap around hitch. It is long enough from the side for the adults to lean in with their whole body. A large one like the rubble box would be nice though for larger tanks or even ones with a different rock structure than I have.

That didn't work out so well. It caught on fire. :(
I'm getting more rod to try again. The piece I burned up was the last piece I had.
