okay ive been setting up a 120 gal. tank for predator fish. I had my tank cycling for 2 weeks then i put in bio-spira from instant ocean, waited a week and i put a big puffer in there. i was so worried it was gonna sell and i wanted him so bad. anyway my nitrite lvls r high because its still in cycle. so my question is. is it okay to do a 30 gal water change like every few days to keep all lvls lower? or do i need to take other action all together

I've never had puffers, but have had great success using PRIME on my baby clowns for ammonia and nitrites. WCs are good too, but I would also ouse PRIME (assuming it is safe for use on puffers).

prime is sodium thiosulfite i believe, which detoxifies ammonia and other nitrogenous waste. bio spira is packaged bacteria. You can use them together

People do this all the time with quarentine tanks so I dont see why you couldn't. I would rather wait for the cycle to finish but I have never had nitrite levels more than two days in my tanks. This actually seems like a long time for you to still be showing nitrite. Would you mind posting how you cycled the tank, just out of curiousity?

not at all, i just hooked up my wet dry, with overflow with skimmer, i put 50 pounds of live rock that i got from a fellow saltwater hobbiest. that had his tank established for a year or more. i added water from the tap and salt mix. insta reef i think. i let that go for 2 weeks then i added bio spira et that sit for a week then i added my puffer hastily for fear that it would get sold lol. last night i did a 30 gal water change and added prime. tonight ill check the lvls again
