I set up my picotope 3 gallon until I move and then comes the 90. I am looking to buy a light for my pico I want it to be led. There is a couple I'm looking at but can't decide. I wanted the par38 the 7ed fixture but it's sold out till September. I am looking for some more good lights that can grow anything maybe some Sps. Thanx

nanotuners has a nice light for pico. but for sps your going to need more than a light, I did a sps pico last year and it was harder to keep stable than my big tank. good start is a modded aquaclear filter for a fuge.

Yea I kinda don't want to do Sps maybe I won't lol. I was thinking about a exoxotic light they have them for 47 at marine depot but idk if that would be enough light. They have another light on Marine depot it's a clip on but idk anything about par levels so idk if it's sufficient for the reef I want.

I have a pico at work that I run 2- 3 w gu 10 led bulbs from a dual desk lamp. I was skeptical at first but I' m convinced it works and looks great. Lots of great info about them on nano-reef.com. It cost me about $20. Here's a good link: http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t267432.html

I'm leaning toward the Archaea 13w clamp on. It may cost a bit more than a DIY, but it will look sharp and I'm not the DIY type. I was hesitating to make the decisions, until I saw this thread:

It's the same tank I have! And looks so much brighter and happier. I'm sold!
(I'm just trying to keep some mushrooms and trash palys alive, nothing fancy)

I like that light tebstan. Would that light handle anything execpt for Sps. I want a strong light most likely led like the Coker but really like that lamp lol

It's sharp looking. But I doubt it can handle more than some hardy soft corals. The bulb is 10k, but only 13w. There are 27w versions though... you're pico is bigger than mine so it might be worth looking at.

Do they end up looking nice, though? DIY in a hood or canopy is one thing. But over a rimless pico, it has to look good.
As soon as I see diagrams, my eyes glaze over.
I have retrofits on my big tank, and even that was an ordeal. I'm all for the pre-fab light on the pico now.
If you do a DIY, post pics - and dumb it down for folks like me. :D

Ok think I found the light I might get it's the par38 21w bulb on marine depot. Would this be a good light for my picotope?
