I have had my biocube for more than two years now. It was my first salt water tank. It wasn't planed out.. I just threw in things I liked and consequently things didn't get along. So I am going to document the rebuild here. I am going to start with a new stand. The oceanic stands are not that good imo. I will be building one an inch wider than the tank to increase stability. Miss Peyton, my 11mo. Old, loves the fish and is a climber.

In the tank, I will be using an InTank filtration system. I will most likely use a JBJ ATO. I am currently running Current T5s and I will keep those.

The rock work will be more deliberate. I have been reading up on people building pillars with pvc or fiberglass rods. Corals are up in the air. The only definite are a tricolor validia and kryptonite candycanes.

Fish list:
2 twinspot gobie put in first
Yasahashi goby and tiger pistol shrimp put in after twinspots are well at home.
Finally, will add a bi color blenny and canary blenny at same time. I may change this from a bicolor to a tribal blenny.

I am not sure how coarse to go with the sand. That is something I would like to hear opinions on.

I will keep yall posted. I have to break down the old setup first and find good homes for the stuff I am not keeping.

What do you think?

3 gobies and 2 blennies. That is 5 fish that have similar niches in a 30 gal system. Might result in some territorial issues.

I had the same concern. Because of that I have talked to several lfs owners. We came up with that order of introduction to help ease stress. I am also aiming to have enough open sand bed to give the gobie space. Do you think that will help.? Long term survival is important to me and any suggestions would be appreciated. One goal of this tank is for the inhabitants to be blennies and gobies.

I currently am running a boicube 29 as well with about 30 to 35 pounds of live rock in it. I Have a Lubbock's fairy Wrasse, tailspot goby, and a Yasahashi goby and tiger pistol shrimp. My aquascape is like two islands with crushed coral for a substrate. The Yasa and tiger took to it right away, making their tunnels underneath the rock work. I will tell you that they pretty much own the left side of the tank underneath the rockwork, and they do displace a lot of the substrate to make room for their ever changing home.....must be a 40 room mansion under there. Just a lil info on one of the inhabitants your looking at with a crushed coral substrate for you to ponder. I will tell you he is an awesome fish once he comes out.

Johnny, thanks for the info. I think one of they keys will he leaving enough sand bed open. That way the twinspots will have a place to go.

What are doing for filtration in back?

I was considering the InTank media basket and fuge basket. That would work with the simmer I have... but I don't like that simmer(aquatic life). Also thinking of cpr Sr3, but then I have no place for a fuge.

That's a really good idea on the fish. I like the smaller size too. What does altea have in the middle chamber or her biocube?

Well I'm using the intank media basket with some phosphate remover, carbon and some filter material up top. In my chamber one all I have is a little rubble rock and my temperature probe. Third chamber just has the stock return pump. I'm also using two koralia pumps in the tank that I would love to switch out for an mp10. Oh also on my chamber two I have the tunze 9002. I am a big fan of the tunze skimmer! Removes a ton of gunk and is super easy to tune in. I tried the biocube skimmer which I still have but that thing sucks....and not in a good way...I guess I'm just too much of a rookie to dial that thing in...It's been banished to the garage box.

Hue long have you had your cube? The only thing stock on mine right now is the return pump. I think my problem is that i feel limited.

I've had my biocube for about 5 months....I understand what you mean by feeling limited, especially after previously having a 120. As a matter of fact just the other day I was pondering and checking the bank account to see how soon it would be before I could purchase a large cube tank....looks like it will be quite a while! Til then my thousand dollar biocube will have to do! By the way I'm still looking for another 12 watt blue and white panorama fixture to finish out the hood...how's yours doing.
